First time poster, long time follower here. This post may be a long one, but a worthwhile read for those of you still on the CPA journey. My journey started back in 2008, to be exact. I wasn’t exactly the greatest accounting student, in fact, I may have been one of the worst ( I got a D in principles of accounting-who gets a D in the first class?!?!). In any case, I couldn’t continue to be an accounting major due to my poor grades, so I switched majors and cobbled together enough accounting credits to qualify for the CPA exam. Fast forward to 2012, I thought I was would be able to pass all of the exams within two testing windows and signed up for all four ( 2 in one testing window and 2 in the next). Sad to say, I pulled a no show on all four exams and just let them expire. Money wasted and time wasted. Two more years would pass before I would sign up for the exam, and I took my “first” part, BEC, and received a 59. I chalked up the score to being my first time sitting for an exam, made a variety of excuses to help me feel better, to mask how poorly I approached the exam. I studied a lot harder for the retake and passed with a 78. I was beyond overjoyed, but knew I had to buckle down and get to studying, but those procrastination demons resurfaced and things were looking gloom. A series of another few failures, including a 28 (yes, a 28, I told my wife it’s impossible to score below a 30, even without studying. Long story short, the wife is always right!) Finally in late 2016, I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, but I didn’t push through as hard as I could and ended up failing AUD and losing a part at the same time (double whammy). Now, I was sitting at two parts passed, and contemplating whether I should continue on with the CPA exam. I really fought my inner demons and told myself (with help from the wife) that if I don’t pass by March 2017, I may have to give up this chase since obviously I’m not cut out for it. I sat down and with minimal distraction, charged through and finally passed AUD. Now it was time to tackle BEC once again, and I found out this morning that I passed BEC and completed all the parts. All in all, I signed up 17 times, sat 12 times, passed 5 times, paid thousands upon thousands of dollars in testing fees and review courses. Yet, I wouldn’t change this for anything (except maybe studying harder) A big thanks to Jeff and everyone at A71 giving encouragement to others. This site was my solace through the ups and downs during the CPA process. For those still on the journey, keep your head up and keep trucking along. If this is something you truly want, the only person stopping you is yourself. You all can do it, now it’s time to put the time and effort behind it, and make it a reality. Good luck!!!
