I PASSED!!!

I promised myself I would give back a little to this site after it had been so helpful to me in the last 10 months.

First off I’d like to recommend the order I took them in. This is of course taking into consideration my strengths and weaknesses. Before I even signed up, I googled which test were the hardest. Overwhelmingly, FAR and REG were rated as the hardest tests for those that have taken the exam. That being said, it all matters on your strengths. I believed FAR was going to be the most intensive as far as calculations and having to “re-learn” and work out problems. On the other hand, I thought REG would be the most difficult for me, considering I hate exceptions to the rule, and REG is chock full of them. So I decided on the following order: FAR, AUD, BEC and finally REG. My strategy was that in the beginning I would have the most energy to study seriously. And knowing I was going up against the toughest test first, I would certainly leave no stones unturned.

    FAR:

I used an outdated (2009) Becker, an outdated Wiley book (2011) and Wiley’s CPA testbank. I studied harder for this test than any test in my life. I worked 2 jobs and spent the rest of my waking hours at the library or Starbucks working out every single question the 3 sources I used had to offer. In 6 weeks I took the test. It was as hard as I thought it might be. Was certain I had completely failed. But I passed with a 76.

    AUD:

I was looking forward to studying for the next one, but figured AUD wouldn’t be as intensive with calculations. I opted to just use the Wiley CPA testbank, and take notes based on the explanations. It worked! I passed with a 76

    BEC:

Seeing that the AUD worked cheaply with just Wiley’s CPA testbank, I went ahead only used that as well, taking notes. I would take notes where I would determine the subject of the question and use that as a header. I would write down the note by hand, and then once completed with a section, I would type the notes into word, using my predetermined headers to keep my word doc organized. Remember, repetition, especially in BEC and AUD is key. IT WORKED AGAIN! Passed with a 76

    REG:

Convinced that Wiley’s testbank was my silver bullet, I used it exclusively again to study for REG. This became very very confusing, and it was not coming together for me the way AUD and BEC did. I have a bit of an excuse for not passing this test, and that was that I had a baby on Tuesday, and 8 hours of sleep before I took the test that Friday. I failed miserably. I scored a 42. I couldn’t believe the subject matter and here my nightmare had come true. REG was going to be a real problem for me.

    REG 2nd:

So now that my streak of 76s was over I all but abandoned my CPA testbank and went with outdated Becker notes. I was a little worried, but as I read through Becker, it was all much more cohesive. Those things that weren’t coming together in the testbank were being glued by Becker. I was exhausted by the time I started to “re-study” for this test, convinced I was not ever going to pass REG, and my CPA dreams were fading. I took REG again the next quarter, and PASSED! 78! I am finished.

For all of those out there having trouble. These tests are no joke, and considering some of the material on these tests, it’s tough to just “know it all.” But that’s just it. You need to study harder than the other guy taking the test that quarter. Any edge you can give yourself, you do it. Anything you can come up with, and help (like this blog) that you come across. It ALL helps, and puts you in front.

Anyways, I’d like to thank Another71.com. It really helped before and after each test, when I would always google “I think I failed XXX CPA test.” Turns out I wasn’t alone 🙂 ……

    FAR – Oct 12 – 76

    AUD – Nov 12 – 76

    BEC – Jan 13 – 76

    REG – Feb 13 – 42 retake May 13 – 78

    DONE!!!!!

Congrats to you…We all are looking forward to the same “I Passed” testimony. It's true what you are saying, I have found that if I thought I knew what study meant, I know what it means now………Good luck landing a CPA job if you're not working.
