    I’m done!

I took waaayyy too long. I thought I could more or less wing it with just some review books, and after I passed Audit and BEC right away on my first attempt, I figured the other two would be no big deal. Wrong.

My study skills weren’t always great, but FAR and REG slayed me. Just when I thought I was improving at FAR, I got one of my lowest scores. Eventually with expiring scores looming, I decided to quit the job I hated and signed up for the Ninja review. I think the MCQs and night-before review of the notes were just enough to pass.

Thanks so much to Jeff for the review materials and the A71 forum. Hearing others’ stories and anxiety about score releases kept me sane and let me know I wasn’t the only one going through the stress. It sometimes felt like family and friends didn’t appreciate how all-consuming this process is, that I couldn’t even sleep without dreaming of either practice questions or score reports.

When I finally got that last score, I couldn’t help but cry. It’s amazing how surreal it felt, and how quickly those failing scores didn’t seem to matter at all. Looking back, I almost feel proud of my failures, like they were a sign of the struggle and perseverance.

I didn’t realize how much of a process getting the license would still be. After I got my scores and thought I was pretty much through it, I found out not only that the ethics exam is a bitch, but that the educational requirements in California had changed since I first looked into the process in 2010. I thought I had met all of the educational requirements with three community college courses I took over the last year, in part just to get units, but found I need three more. I wish I knew if the Board agreed with my assessment while I wait for their response to my application, because I’m now signing up for summer courses. Hopefully these won’t be a waste of time also. The waiting in this process has been almost as tough as the exams.

Ethics took me almost a solid week since I failed it once. It’s too bad that it’s not written as carefully as the CPA exams, but what the heck, I’m not working now anyway so it gave me some purpose. Now to start the job hunt…

Congratulations to everyone who’s gotten through this. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the CPA designation is no joke, and probably doesn’t get the respect it deserves. To everyone who’s still working on the exams or the license, best of luck and stay determined, it will be worth it.

Awesome to read all of the “I'm done” stories. Couldn't be happier for everyone!

I started this journey back in 2013 and took several breaks along the way. Passed AUD yesterday to finally be done…done…done! Now to figure out the WA State Board of Accountancy licensure application, ethics exam and other requirements. :). Happy CPA'ing.

@Mcast126, I wouldn't worry about it to much. I never had a noticeably harder second testlet on any of the ones I've passed. I just took AUD though and the 2nd testlet was huge jump in difficulty.

I've been procrastinating on this post. In part, because being done is still somewhat surreal. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I can word exactly how triumphant it feels. So, I'll use #'s.

980 miles; distance I moved from home to a state that was more open to the idea of licensing an ex felon.

15 years: from the time I completed my B.S. until now.

6: number of kids and grandkids and adult stepchild sharing a 3 bedroom house when I first began studying.

50%: discount I received on Becker review through scholarship.

2x: number of Becker extensions I needed to complete all 4 parts.

    4x: to pass FAR successfully.

    3 for 3: passing other 3 sections.

6K: approximate $ spent on exam fees and Becker review.

I never thought I would make it to this board after failing AUD with a 70 the first time. However, after 2 yrs I am finally finished with the CPA exam after passing BEC with a 89. To all those who are still taking the exam, do not give up and keep going.

About a year from the start of studying and I am finally done! 94 on BEC to finish it off. For everyone who hits a roadblock or loses motivation, you can pass these exams with determination, sacrifice, and hard work. Also don’t pay too much attention to the Becker mock exams, they don’t always indicate how you’ll do on the actual exam. Good luck to all those still taking exams. It’ll be over before you know it!

I am done! 5 years of school, 2 years of studying while working, 2 sections failed and retaken. I found out yesterday I improved my score 10 points on REG after a month of studying using only Ninja.

I am already planning my celebratory motorcycle rides with my newfound free time.

    Congrats to everyone that's done!

So thrilled to finally be able to comment on this thread!! Passed AUD with an 82!
For those reading this forum for encouragement (which I often did throughout the journey!): beginning to study for each exam, I felt like I was at the bottom trying to climb a mountain. Be patient with yourself and take it a day at a time – your hardwork will pay off and the material will begin to make sense!

Top two pieces of advice to pass on the first try:
    (1) Write down WHY you got any MCQ or Sim wrong to solidify your understanding of the correct answer
    (2) Especially for REG and FAR, write out step-by-step cheat sheets of how to solve problems (ex: step 1-2-3 for like-kind exchanges, percentage completion, etc) so when you're faced with the problem on Test Day, you'll methodically know how to solve for and not make mistakes! Woot!

Again congrats to all who are officially done!! We made it!!

I am in shock. I started this process 25 years ago before I had my kids and put it on hold. I watched my mom go through the CPA exam in the 1980s and have always revered CPAs.
Now, after 18 months of studying, I am done with all four sections of the CPA exam on the first try while taking classes, parenting two teen boys and life happened…water heater died and flooded my office, car died, flat tire on car, sicknesses and family emergencies, etc. I listened to Jeff's audio tapes while I drove in the car and spent countless hours listening to Becker lectures. I am thankful for the another71 community…I knew I was never alone in this journey. Now I just need to complete five more classes and get a job!

I took my first exam seven years ago next month, and today I'm finally DONE! I thought I'd be a lot more excited to be done, but I honestly didn't think I passed this last exam (study schedule got way off track and I really hadn't studied as much as I needed to) so I'm more just in shock.
