Didn't finish the exam…

So…I took REG yesterday and didn’t finish. I felt awesome rounding out the MCQ and went into the SIMs with an hour and 15 mins left! Then there were two monster problems. I finished 3 but as soon as I finished I realized I had done the wrong method for an entire question so tried to scramble to change it all. Let’s just say for the sake of it I’m confident about completing two SIMs only. I didn’t do the research question since the others are obviously more heavily weighted. Is there ANY WAY I CAN PASS? I have a couple friends who said they had the following experiences:

-did 1.5 SIMs, didn’t feel confident about their MCQ but got a 73 (hey I finished .5 more…it could happen!)

-did 2 SIMs on FAR and passed with an 83

-didn’t finish 2 SIMs on FAR and “passed with more than ‘just barely”

Any words of encouragement or similar stories so I know they’re not lying out of pure bliss of passing or just to make me feel better? I felt prepared throughout but obviously took too much time. I just know I had finished and didn’t walk away saying, I wish I studied a certain something more.

What is this “passed with more than ‘just barely'”? Where does that come from?

You only need a 75 and if you are strong in MCQs and the sims you did finish were correct…it could happen. I hope it is a passing score for you, JPowell!

@jpowell REG is the next exam I'm taking and I've heard that the Sims are the toughest of the 3 parts. With that in mind, it probably has the greatest curve. I passed FAR with a 76 and left 2 tabs completely blank, so anything is possible!

    AUD - 92
    BEC - 81
    FAR - 76
    REG - 89
    Never give up!

I passed REG w/ a 76 and I wasn't confident in ANY of my sims.

The curve has to be outrageous.

    IL
    FAR (2/20/13): 76
    AUD (4/8/13): 78
    BEC: (5/20/13): 86
    REG: (7/10/13): 76
    Ethics: Done
Operation "Hurry up and pass this thing before we have our first baby in October" COMPLETED

Jpowell, I recently took REG mid-July, and also felt very confident on the MCQ portion of the exam. I thought the SIMs were very tough, and spent a lot of time going through and solving them to the point that I ran out of time and accidentally left an entire SIM blank (yikes!). However, I did complete the research SIM and was fairly confident that I had entered the correct answer in that one. I received my score today and passed with a 77! But looking back I realize now that spending too much time and overanlyzing the details on certain questions can be detrimental to your achieving a passing score. Sometimes when you have been on a problem for a certain period of time and are unsure, it is best to just guess the most appropriate answer and move on to the next question to make up for potentially lost points. If you are confident that you did well on at least two SIMs and put a reasonable effort into the third one, then I would say it is very possible that you can still receive a passing score. After all, the research question is not worth very much from my understanding, and the other blank SIM could have been pretest. Good luck and keep us posted on your score!

The research question is weighted the same as the other sims.

    AUD 93 08/20/12
    REG 87 11/26/12
    BEC 91 02/25/13
    FAR 98 05/14/13

@rroano, thanks for clearing that up. Didn't realize the research SIM was weighted the same as the others!

Well, thanks for the words of encouragement. I know that there's a very slim chance of passing but we shall see. And maybe I only think I nailed the MCQ because I need some hope and they were actually all “Medium” testlets and didn't do very well at all :(. Oh well, the waiting game begins.

The “better than barely” comes from a person who didn't want to share their scores but wanted me to know that it was possible if they could pass by a large enough margin having not completed 2 SIMs. I just want a 75!!

And I didn't think the research question was weighted as much as others! I know they're all worth different amounts and I'm sure it depends on how difficult it is as some seem impossible to find, while others are obvious. But compared to the other 5 SIMs there's no way this was weighted very heavily. Annoying, though because I definitely could've gotten it done. Wish I didn't spend so much time on the (LONGER) method for one of the SIMs that should've taken 5 mins and was a guaranteed 100% and now I know I bombed it. Maybe it'll be weighted less heavily for that reason :).

I think I will still read through my notes every couple of days to keep it fresh in my brain in case I have to retake.
