Has AICPA made MCQ's more difficult?

Has anyone noticed a trend in their last couple exams of the multiple choice being more difficult than usual? I studied pretty hard for REG and did more practice MCQ’s than any other section and felt blown away by what was on the exam. Not to scare anyone but just wondering if we’re seeing a shift here? The dreaded SIMS have actually been manageable, and I applaud the AICPA for that since they seem more relevant and practical to the real world.

I found that, at least on FAR, the questions on the exam were much more direct and straight forward.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 85
    FAR - 85
    REG - 83
    Licensed CPA (MI)

    CPAexcel & Ninja

    AUD 69, 73, 79

    BEC 67, 69, 73, 85

    FAR 85

    REG 83

I took FAR last window and didnt find them too bad, but when I took REG this window I was in awe.. I did over 2500 MCQ and was blown away by what I saw considered the previously released questions from 2017.

    AUD - 83
    BEC - 87
    FAR - 86
    REG - 88

    Hey @ThePeople'sChamp

So the MCQ's were harder than what you studied? What review course did you use? I'm sure you did great…I always feel terrible leaving my exams and think I bombed them

@zach yeah they were just more random and obscure and covering much less tax computational stuff that I felt like I had a good grasp on. I felt like I had to make a lot of educated guesses as opposed to just knowing the answer. I’d make sure to know the ethics and tax procedure stuff. I used Wiley and Ninja. Did a good 2,000 questions combined. Who knows, I could have done alright but won’t be surprised either way

@ The People's Champ – Best of luck on your score and I am sure you did well. I know what you mean, as the BEC I took, at least 60-70% of the MCQs covered 20 % of the review material, and not the stuff you'd expect, while the SIMs were more in line with what you'd expect. From your experience (and other recent ones) it seems REG is similar.

Thanks! I’ll definitely need a little luck considering I took at least 5-10 guesses on MCQ’s

I definitely felt the same way taking BEC two weeks ago. Went in thinking I had a good grasp on all of the material, but the first section destroyed my confidence. Quite a few of the questions I don't ever remember seeing in my studying (using Becker) and had to make many more educated guesses than I would have liked. The rest of the exam was more straightforward but I definitely thought about how hard it would be to change professions in that first section. đŸ™‚

@Emily haha yeah that's the worst when you're confidence gets annihilated after the first 10 questions. But after passing BEC I knew I had to keep going and give it my best effort. For AUD, I literally wanted to walk out after the first sim testlet. These exams are just as much of a mental attitude game as they are actual skill and knowledge! I feel a little better about REG today but still am thinking I probably didn't make the 75 mark.

    Took REG few days ago.

    They were random alright.
I didn't feel the MCQs were very practical/ had not seen many of these Qs in any shape or form before, but the sims were practical (thankfully).

I am glad I am not the only one feeling this way about the randomness of the MCQs

    AUD - 77
    BEC - 79
    FAR - 75
    REG - 80
    Won't know until you try.

    FAR: 76
    REG: Currently studying
    AUD:
    BEC:

Theres some truth to what you are describing I think. My first exam was FAR and the MCQ's were very easy and appeared very elementary, then I took BEC and was convinced I failed because the MCQ's were almost unfair (or so I thought). Then REG, same as BEC the questions were just out of left field and felt discouraged. After getting scores back I realized I worried for nothing. Interestingly enough, FAR had the hardest sims out of all of them thus far. Yet BEC and REG the sims seemed very simple. Who really knows what they do.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 82
    REG - 90

@Misconnnie: Can you please suggest your strategy for BEC exam …I am just getting started with BEC and this is my second attempt .
