How long should I study before I take a break?

    Hi guys!

I am a morning person. So I wake up at 5am and I study but for some reason I start to get distracted after an hour or 40 mins after I study. I try to take a break. But I wanted to check if that’s normal. Or is it too long or too short to take a break before I jump in to the next study session. I am not a night time. I struggle to study at night. I am more distracted at night after 10 hours of work.

My second problem is my knees or joints and my butt hurts me when I sit or sit more than 30 mins. Do you guys have that? Lol! It takes my focus away! Thanks for your tips.

A little about me. I am studying Reg. I plan to take the exam in about 3 to 4 weeks. I have Roger. I work 40-50 hours per week. I have an hour lunch break but I also sit at my desk. I try to move around every now and then. Any idea?

Stop goofing around. Put headphone on, airplane mode on baby. Wifi Off. Yeah buddy! Stay focus! Soon I will be a cpa.

I also used to get up at 5 am to study. If you're getting distracted studying at 5 am when everyone is asleep, I'd consider getting some focusing medications lol. But really, you'e using Roger and he can't keep you focused, that may be a little problem

    Whatever works for you.

I was introduced to the Pomodoro technique and have found it very useful.

Basically it is a time management technique where you study intensely or do any activity for a set time and then a short break. Working in intervals. It is recommended 25 mins then 5 minute breaks. After 4 intervals of this you then take a longer 20-30 minute break then start all over again.

There are many apps and desktop apps that you can use with this system.

Google Pomodoro Technique and find out some more info but I think it is worthwhile. I ended up doing 40 minute study sessions with 5 minute breaks and then a longer break after 4 intervals.

At least for your joints it sounds like you need to stretch, I had problems while I was studying because i'd work all day and get home and study another 4 hours. My back started to kill me after a while, a few times i had to stop studying just to get up and not be in the sitting position.

Luckily for me my step sister is a physical therapist and she gave me some exercises to do (they were time consuming as well) and my back felt way better pretty quickly.

This may be to much to ask but what may help both your focusing and your joints, but my advice would find a (hot) Yoga place around you, it will give your mind a break from being in accounting mode all day and can help you get some flexibility back and really help with your joints. If you really dont like idea get a good stretching routine in.

Bourne – you are so funny. Roger is fun to watch. He is very enthusiastic. He makes accounting fun. Like i said I am a morning person. I was referring at night i get sleepy doing multiple choice questions. But I found some great solutions from meanjoe. Use pomodoro techniques. It’s working well. Let’s get this over with.

Thank you for all the response. Everyone is helpful.

I would study for 30 minutes then rest for 1.5 hours, up to 3 times a day. Which would be considered pitiful by some, but I'm the type that cannot be motivated to do anything more than the bare minimum.

I usually study 30 mins, take 30 min break. But I have the luxury to do this and study for 6-7 hours per day.

That is way too long of a break for me personally. It would extend the amount of time needed to study by a lot. If you are finding success in it (in the form of passing the sections your studying for) than go for it.

    @MeanJoe

How many hours are you trying to study per day? I have all day open so that's why I can do this. If you don't, I understand.

    MeanJoe,

On the contrary, I thought the 1.5 hour breaks were the sweet spot for me lol. Not too grindy, not too detached. The perfect balance between power and elegance.
