Just took REG…Feeling dejected.

Just got back from my REG exam, and I feel awful. I know that if you still have any self-confidence coming out of a CPA exam, you’re probably doing something wrong, but 75% of the material tested on the exam was not covered in Becker. I memorized most of the book and scored an 86% and an 86.5% on the practice exams, so it’s not that I didn’t have a strong grasp of the material that I was familiar with. It was that I wasn’t taught enough of the right material. I kinda felt this way after FAR, but the difference with FAR is that I could apply my knowledge to the application questions to make an educated guess. With REG, it was more conceptual questions on concepts I didn’t even learn! It was like I was closing my eyes and pointing at the screen to choose my answer.

On FAR, I scored an 87% and 90% on the practice exams and got a 96 on the actual exam, so I’m hoping that my practice exam scores for REG will follow the trend and be indicative of at least a 75. The MCQs on REG are where I think I really took a hit…again, conceptual questions on topics that I hadn’t learned. The sims weren’t too bad (they felt easier than my FAR sims). Five of them were very straightforward, but the sixth one was so bizarro and gave me so much trouble that I’m hoping that it was the pretest question.

Sorry for the pity party!!! Just needed to let it all out! Taking a few days break to go up north, and then studying for BEC begins! Happy Fourth, everyone!

If you used Becker I find it odd that you say 75% of the material covered on the exam was not covered in Becker

I failed the crap out of REG one time (66) but all the material at least looked familiar when I took the test

You may have passed though, you never know

Wait just reread your post – You made a 96 on FAR and are worried about passing REG? Give me a break!

Felt the EXACT same way after BEC. Had mid 80's on both practice exams and then took the real thing and was sure I failed. On score day, I was scared to look; to my surprise I received 93 on it! You'll be fin, just focus on the next exam and worry about this one when you get scores.

I second the OP's sentiments. I got a 95 on FAR and 97 on AUD and felt great coming out of both of the exams. However, just took REG and felt like I got punched in the stomach. The sims were all very different from what was focused on in Becker and I felt that the test as a whole was much more difficult than the previous two. There were maybe 4 or 5 MCs that I had to completely guess on which is a first for me. Feeling pretty bad right now. I was able to finish both FAR and AUD early but for REG I had to guess on a portion on the last sim. Sorry for rambling but I am feeling a little upset that the exam was much harder than I was expecting.

    Hey fellas!!!

I had the same experience. One or two sims were brutal. The mcqs seems medium to hard. I am just praying to pass!!!!

My guess is that you guys/gals are the type of people that have a very difficult time in dealing with the fact that you don't know every single detail of every single topic on this exam. This is not meant to be offensive in any way. I've learned this about myself as my wife reminded me before I took REG. I swore up and down that “this exam is different”, “you don't understand, I really don't think I know the material that well”, “I haven't prepared enough for this one”. I was really just freaking out because I didn't know 100% of of the material, which is the only way I would truly feel comfortable.

You guys/gals will do great. You're all scoring in the 90's (even high 90's for some). I don't think you should have any reason to believe your score for this exam will be any different.

Appreciate it rupert. I think you are exactly right. I'm used to the exams feeling easy and this has certainly been a change. Hopefully I did enough to pass!

If it is of any consolation, every single time I walked out feeling like I bombed it, I passed. In fact the one time I felt good was when I failed AUD.

My last exam was BEC and I felt like I had been hit by a freight train….and well I passed.

Dejection or no dejection, keep at it,

Oh REG. REG and I were not friends. You all are very capable….and REG is a beast. Seems like you put the time in studying and may just be being extra hard on yourselves. I left my last REG retake completely numb with absolutely no idea how I did and passed. I know it is hard to wait for the score and “move on” by try your best to put it out of your mind until scores are released.

OP – been there, done that, have the t-shirt. I only used Becker and ninja audio when I took REG at the end of May. Two sims were on topics completely ignored by Becker…and there was a few MCQ related to those same topics…that said, I only missed it by a point. Retest was today, used Wiley and redid all the Becker MCQ over the last 3 weeks and the exam went much better. It's a crap shoot…your practice test scores were better than mine, so I'd guess you have a good shot.

    Awaiting license in IL.

Yeah, I am moving on to BEC now. Its better to attempt one more rather than waiting whole month for the score and doing nothing. I want to be done by august and start my job search.

@rupert!! I guess I agree with your observation!!!

@rupert, that is a very fair assessment of me. Haha I am definitely like that. @ganudorm, maybe 75% was a bit of an exaggeration, but it was more than half of the exam that wasn't covered in Becker. Ah well, tomorrow is a new day!

I took REG on Friday and although my previous scores suggest I shouldn't be stressing out, this was the first exam I've walked out of feeling like I really need to brace myself for the fact that I could have failed it. (Of course I had a little doubt after the first two, but was a lot more confident in comparison.) Maybe I am just focusing on what I didn't know/messed up, but those sims REALLY kicked my butt! Looking up things in the IRC was barely helpful at all and I ended up guessing for so many of the boxes. The multiple choice was overall okay, definitely got harder as it went along, but I felt like I waffled on a lot more answers than I did for FAR or AUD.

For some reason I was under the impression this test wouldn't be THAT bad, but this was the first test where mid-exam I was on the verge of tears for a moment because I felt overwhelmed by what it was asking. I have found some solace in reading around here that many who have taken REG over the past week feel basically the same way as I do, and I'm hoping I'm just overreacting. I will be on vacation when these scores are released, and I know I'm going to HAVE to check, just hope it doesn't ruin my trip!

For now I'm studying for BEC, it's a pretty quick turnaround since I'm taking it later this month and I'm hoping I can pull it off. I would rather pass REG than BEC the first time around, for sure!

    FAR: 4/8/13 - 88
    AUD: 5/7/13 - 99
    REG: 7/5/13 - 82
    BEC: 7/27/13 - Waiting!
