    Hey everyone!

I have been reading everyones posts for about 2 months now and have finally decided to join. I took FAR at the end of November and am “patiently” awaiting my score. I am scheduled to take REG on Jan 16th and just got done studying R-3 thru Becker and it totally overwhelmed me. Does anyone have advice on how to connquer that portion confidently? Is there any other tips anyone wants to offer up? Any would be greatly appreciated!!

I am so excited to have this outlet, all my friends who went through the accounting program with me bailed, so you are the only ones who understand what it is like. Thanks for being here!

    apruneda,

I am currently study REG using Becker. Just finished attending the R6 & R7 lectures in the classroom last week and working on finishing up the multiple choice questions. Hope to finish tonight or tomorrow night. REG will be my last exam when (Being positive) I get my passing BEC score this week. There is a lot of information in REG, I think you need just to piecemeal your studying. I can barely remember what R3 was about now that I am on R6 & R7. AFter I finish R6 & R7, I will start my second time through. Listen to lectures and redoing the multiple choice questions, spending an average of 3 days per section while doing reviews of previous chapters by continuosly completing progress test as I progress through the material. I will not proceed to the next chapter unless I do well on the progress test. This process has worked for me on building my knowledge as I study. I have budgeted around 140 hours to study reg between 1 Dec 09 and 2 Feb 10. I usually do about 10 – 14 hours a week studying but I do have many obstacles that prevent me from doing more that is why I usually allow plenty of time, full time job and six children.

Six children? You are my hero! I have two and can't study with them around. Best wishes on passing REG!!

Lee_IN Looks like you are on the same study schedule as me. I plan taking REG on Feb 2 as well. Hoping it will be my last part, waiting on my FAR score. Good luck to you!

It is tough, wife helps a bunch, I usually do not get to study until after 9 PM after we get all the children in bed. I usually go to work and study for about 6 hours on Saturday and Sunday on the last two weekends prior to my exam. I also think anyone who takes on this task of becoming of CPA should be royally commended. Good Luck on your FAR study. By the way which study material are you using? I am using Becker.

Thanks, Good Luck you on your FAR score and REG studying. I will be driving through PA next week on my way to NY for Christmas Holiday with Family. Plan on taking laptop to study, however I do plan to take time to enjoy the holidays. Really cannot afford a week of non studying in schedule but can manage a few slips that is why I scheduled way out. Please take the time to enjoy the family during the holidays, I think it will do wonders for everyone.

Thanks for the advice Lee. My current study plan is at about 21 house a week but it is hard to get that in. I work full-time with a two hour commute and a four year old….Sometimes I wish they could test us on multi-tasking…haha.

My current study plan consists of lecture and homework for 2 days at 3 hours for one section, then I dedicate an hour to the related simulations, 2 hours to the note cards, then three hours doing progress tests before I move onto the next section, (so about 12 hours to each section). That is what I did for FAR and I am still awaiting score, but I am pretty sure it was a big failure for me. I left feeling like I was in a boxing match and was punched and kicked for four hours…..worst feeling in the world! Good luck to you in your endeavors!

apruneda – i would definitely focus your attention on chapter 3. i sat for REG on 11/30 and i had tons of questions from that chapter. a lot of built in gains questions and depreciation related questions. not that many business law questions (chapters 6 and 7). good luck!

    AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!

I am on R-5 and want to take the exam on January 2nd. I am in corporate accounting and starting January I am going to be busy until the end of February! This will probably be the hardest exam for me to get through. Is it possible to study like crazy until January 1st and pass? I will try and get through the MC at least 3x. Anyone have any advice? I could really use all the help I can get.

    Thanks!

    BEC – passed FAR – passed AUD – waiting REG – 1/2/2010

    Thanks MPoni,

I went ahead to R4 just so I can get thru the rest of the book, but I will probably go back and re-listen to the Becker lecture on R3. I went ahead to R4 and it is making sense…..maybe I wasn't paying good enough attention in R3 🙂 I am getting anxious already for the exam…..I just dont want to feel like I did after FAR.

RSanchez- I have no advice for you as I am in need of it too. But I wish you the best of luck!

    apruneda,

I had a tough time with R3 as well. I just watched the lecture for R5 and it doesn't seem like the business law portion will be too bad. At the end of the lecture, Peter recommends getting through and understanding all of the tax portions before moving onto the law portions, so I am going to go ahead and go back through R1-R4. I am taking next week off and plan on studying 10-12 hrs a day; hopefully I will be ready for Jan 2nd!

    Thanks!

I am going through the REG lectures myself. I also did poorly on the R3 questions after listening to the lecture and then did much, much better on R4. It is good to know I'm not the only one seeing that. I'll be listening to R1-R3 again to help cement the knowledge in before my exam for sure.

    Dale-

I love how you are blogging about your experience..it cracks me up! I only read your first two posts and think its interesting how you dont like R4 instructor. I think the other guy is a snooze fest. Different strokes for different folks I guess. When are you taking your exam?
