That's EXACTLY what I used to do!! Until I started doing the pomodoro technique. Now I'm not tempted because I know after 25 short minutes I have 5 minutes to creep on A71 lol

haha this is why I go to the library and sit at a table. That way I can read the notes, do the questions and take a break after an hour of questions. I'll just use the student computers.

@ Peanut – what is the pomodoro technique? Never heard of it, but sounds like I need to!

I'm with Peanut. Pomodoro technique is a GAME CHANGER. I'm eternally grateful to whomever mentioned it. I will use it the rest of my life.

You can download the PDF for free here

Do yourself a favor and actually read it ALL. It doesn't take long.

There is also a droid app called pomodoro technique that lets you set the timer and the alarm goes off at the 25 and 5 minute marks. Very handy. You can adjust the time settings on it as well if you feel you need to have longer sessions or longer breaks

There's also one for your desktop. I use both. They say the ticking actually helps you focus, ala' Pavlov.

What?? The ticking is supposed to work? I have the Ipad app but I can't stand the ticking. I'm way to crazy, I start to count the tickets. I'm out of control. By the way I've never read that PDF, LOL. I just use the 25 5

    Peanut:

I know! It took me a while too. Only for me, it was a metronome. I'd get a song stuck in my head in time to the ticks. I stuck with it though.

Alright then, whipping out my Ipad and trying it with the “ticking.” I'll also read the PDF on my 5 minutes.

For the record, I don't know if the ticking ACTUALLY helps or if they just say it does.

YAY Pomodoro! I'm starting to think that this will be bigger than the red panty revolution.

That said, the pomodoro technique has been in my back pocket for about 2 years and it was most definitely instrumental in my passing the CPA and I use it as work all the time (I have a highly task-based job). The first few pomodoros are a little tough but you quickly realize just how distracted your mind can be. This does wonders for forcing you to devote 100% of your attention to only one task and the 5 minutes afterward are almost like a reward.

@katiekanton, I never knew the ticking actually helps! I've always just set a timer on my cell and let the alarm go off when time was up. I'll have to try the app.
