When I was in my late 20s, I wanted to get out of retail and into a new career but no one other than retail would look at me cause of my years in the industry and my management degree. So I decided to go to grad school, my choices in my area were MBA or Masters in Tax (MST). Since I already had a management degree, I went for the MST. I was wondering if there are any other MSTs on the forum and if so what kind of work are you doing??

I’m working in Corporate. I was in S&U tax but have moved into Internal Controls . I love my job but it’s pretty far from tax at the moment.

I don't have one yet, but I'll be applying to schools next year after I save up a little money. Any advice? 🙂

I'm in the middle of my M.S. in Tax. Still working at the same place that I worked before I began my M.S. in Tax – small place and we mainly do all sorts of tax returns. My M.S. in Tax will probably not have any effect on my current job (except that I'll know more :-)).

I've been thinking of moving to a Big 4 next year…still very hesitant about it, though.

Going thru the motions of applying to one. Not sure if I'll go through with it if I get accepted. I'm not looking to jump ship anytime soon, as I like where I'm at.

    Couldn't pass again!

@ Nebraska – The program that I was in was much more like a law degree than an accounting degree which initally disappointed me. However in the end, the skills I learned to research issues and read code has been very beneficial. What would you like to do when you're done? My program cost about 20k but since I couldn't get out of retail without it, I feel that it was well worth it and I'd do it again.

@rlkamp I think I'd like to start off in public acc and then see where life takes me! I interned for a big 4 for tax in undergrad and LOVED it, but I felt super frazzled a lot of the time because the only tax class I had was an intro class where we learned about taxation on individuals but not a whole lot on corporations. I feel like I know a lot more after taking the cpa exams though, but I still want to go through with the masters.
