Prometric Availability in December

    Is anyone else having a hard time finding testing slots during the last half of December? I thought maybe more slots would be open since it’s near the holidays, but it seems as maybe everyone has decided to take exams during the last 2 weeks of December (mainly during the week after Christmas).

    I live in Texas, and I’m only able to find about 2 dates (12/17 and 12/18) at 1 location throughout the majority of Texas (or at least the parts of Texas that aren’t 9 hours away from me, haha). At this point, I’m considering driving 4.5 hours to another state and take the exam where my parents live.

    At this point I’m just checking the availability multiple times throughout the day in case something opens up.

    Just wanted to know if anyone else was running into this issue in their area?

    I think there’s a number of factors for why this December is full. For those who passed their first exam June of last year, December would be their final chance before a test (or tests) expires. With COVID, extensions were pushed out (3 months?). I’m in that camp: original REG expiration was November, but pushed back to end of year. Also, with COVID, testing centers may be limiting their capacity. If you do need to schedule this year, I would advise scheduling what you can. You can pay the change fee if something closer opens. Good luck!

    That makes sense. I completely forgot about the extensions through 12/31. I’ll probably just go ahead and book the testing site 4.5 hours away since they have my preferred date. I was being cheap and trying to avoid a change fee in case something popped up in my area. At this this point I better quit being cheap if I want to get a testing slot this month, haha!

    @road2cpa, You might have to book away from home to get a date. I had to 3 times due to COVID. The test center I use closed, re-opened, closed again and cancelled until further notice. I changed test sites which is further away than the first but I got a seat and I’m prepared to stay overnight in a hotel to be on time. So, you might have to do what you have to do.

    @Tncincy that's what I did earlier today. Booked the testing site that's out of state, and I will just keep checking to see if anything opens up locally over the next couple of weeks.

    I'm in Florida and I had to keep checking availability. Originally, I took what I could in December but due to persistence I was able to find two dates close to the end of December. I'm taking BEC for the first time and REG retake. I want to be done so bad so I'm pushing myself. Using Ninja and Surgent.

    I have been on this journey off and on for over 10 years. I think it's about time that I wrap this up.

    @fsugirl2005 Two exams days apart?! I'm impressed! I don't think my nerves would let me handle two exams days apart. I've seen a few people in this forum and the NASBA Facebook group that have done that before and have been successful. Just a few weeks ago there was a guy that mentioned taking all 4 exams approximately 1-2 weeks a part (if I remember correctly)… and he passed all 4 exams!

    Right now, I'm checking dates at least 5-6 times a day between studying. I'm scheduled for 12/30 out of state, but would really appreciate something local. Yesterday I checked the drive out of state and realized it's actually almost a 6 hour drive versus a 4.5 hour drive like I originally thought. I haven't gone there in years since my parents always prefer visiting me, so I guess I forgot how long the drive truly is.

    @Road2CPA

    Thanks. It's an incredible feat and I'm driven by my faith in God and sheer determination. Plus, I have my own accounting practice so I make my own schedule. I do my work and then I study. In addition, I'm a single mom of a child with special needs so I'm doing a lot of this for him. Therapies ain't cheap…lol. =)

    Good luck to you!

    @fsugirl2005 You are an amazing woman! *high five*. Faith and determination will definitely get us through things that we typically think we can’t handle.

    Thanks, and good luck to you as well!… we will both end 2020 strong with passing exams!
