Prometric’s website states it will be closed through May 31. My exam was scheduled for May 16, but Prometric said they will email those with current appointments so we can re-schedule for free. Has anyone gotten their email yet? I have not.

I am in the Bay Area and I received an email stating my exam was canceled. I was scheduled for May 29th for FAR. I scheduled the next exam but the earliest available was August which means I have to take the remaining tests closer together than I planned.

This is a wake up call to NASBA to just do away with the 18month rule. I really don’t understand why that rule exist

I 100% agree. It's an arbitrary rule they made to steal more money from us. As if it wasnt hard enough already.

Fyi, my test now shows canceled and I cannot reschedule it. Too bad prometric is trash and had no way of contacting them yesterday, I could have rescheduled yesterday but wasnt sure it was actually canceled.

I guess, per NASBA, a second email will be sent about cancellation. Posted on twitter here: https://twitter.com/NASBA/status/1254892764682170368?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

As of today, my exam still says scheduled, and I have received no email. I feel we need better communication regarding this. Does this mean my exam is still scheduled? What happens if I never get a confirmation/cancellation email and I go to the testing center on May 19th, and no one is there (unlikely, possibly)? I feel there should definitely be credit extensions beyond those who are expiring in the upcoming months, certainly not eliminate the 18 month rule. I know they released continuous testing, but that doesn't help if some of us can't reschedule until August. If anyone has words of encouragement, please share haha.

I disagree that the 18-month rule should remain. What is the point of it? Some of us work full-time accounting jobs and life doesn't always line up. Quarter-end is an absolute nightmare for me being in a massive publicly-traded company. I have yet to see a reason why the 18-month rule makes sense, either you pass or you don't. The time period should not matter since CPE is a requirement for all licensed CPAs. They already made it so you effectively need a master's degree to be licensed and then they made it much harder than used to be by giving equal weight to the SIMs. The fact that it's state by state and that it's not been a blanket extension for all people just highlights how out of touch they are, how little they care about their prospective members.

I was able to reschedule (maybe) for a few days after my original appointment, not at the same location but close enough. We'll see if it holds.

Once they mark your appointment as “Status: Canceled” you can't reschedule, you'll need to go to “Schedule” and start over with your NTS, I'd recommend everyone get on that if they haven't already to sneak in before the Prometric people start arbitrarily deciding who gets to take an exam and when, like they did in deciding who got canceled.

If you didn't get an email yesterday about being canceled I think you're still on (if you did get one yesterday I'd bet that you're canceled). I don't know where you are located, I'm in Florida (sitting for NJ) where our lockdown is scheduled to end in a few days so it might vary by state.

@Vanquished – We will have to agree to disagree on that, which is fine. We have our reasons and thoughts as to why it should hold or shouldn't hold. No amount of arguing, examples, or reasoning is going to change either of our opinions on the 18-month rule.
    .
I'm in Pennsylvania, near the Philadelphia area. I'm not all that optimistic of being able to take my exam mid May, given where the testing center is located. To be fair, while we were told testing would resume May 1st, NASBA also told us that Prometric will email us either to re-confirm our appointment or to cancel our appointment. I guess I will wait patiently this week to see if I receive an email either re-confirming or canceling my appointment.

I got a second confirmation today about it being canceled so I think if you haven't gotten either AND you're not in a place with a lockdown extended through May your test should be on. Now I await to see if my new scheduled test in May will stick.

Somone on Twitter or facebook or here (I don't remember anymore) said that Prometric told them they just went in and canceled anyone assigned to an odd-numbered seat.

I think my state is expected to slowly start re-opening May 8th, but it's a 3 phase process. So we will see. I hope you can test in May! I know someone mentioned that on Facebook, Prometric was canceling all exams through the month of May, including the CPA exam. That's news to me that they were canceling based on seating.

If by now you haven't figured out that the CPA exam is as much an exercise in discipline as it is technical knowledge, I don't know what to tell ya haha

How does that have anything to do with discipline?

Because it forces you to sit for your exam in limited allotted periods. All while working a full time job, for many.

I think what @SerenityNow is saying is that time constraints, whether artificial or self-imposed, force you to muster discipline in order to achieve a certain task.

I don't like the 18 month rule but I agree with the discipline part. I personally believe the 18 month rule helps those who REALLY want it to stay focused and disciplined to achieve passing in that time frame. I think because you “HAVE NO DESIRE” to be a public accounting, your views may be different @vanquished. But agree to disagree

lol. If I didnt have the discipline to complete large unstructured tasks on tight deadlines I wouldnt be where I am today.

I've studied 500 hours for these stupid tests already. My scores have been all over the map and the 18 month window is just nonsense added stress that they have to milk more money out of people.

Insinuating that I'm not taking this seriously or that I dont have discipline is exceedingly insulting.
