Most states have requirement that you must have x amount of accounting classes to be able to take the cpa exam and receive your CPA license. I am wondering what is the point of that requirement when it’s so easy to cheat in online classes using Quizlet? For record, yes i cheated in all of my 8 accounting classes that I took using Quizlet.

“Barrier to Entry” – reduces the possible number of candidates and delivers an inflated sense of worth to the profession and designation specifically.
Similar to lawyers needing to attend law school to be able to pass the bar.
NYS allows a 15 year work experience pathway that requires no schooling. I would say it's similar to an old school apprenticeship.

    Nicely put @Recked!

I believe the State Boards have conspired with Macc/MST programs around the country to take more of our money. I'm not convinced any amount of accounting courses alone can prepare you for FAR.

All of you are probably right, otherwise a lot more people would be ready for FAR.

@Silent: which college did you use to get your acct credit? I am doing the same thing as you except I am really studying. It would be against my own interest not to if I actually do plan on taking the CPA exam. It took me almost a year to study FAR in detail. And the exam questions are not easily found on a search. They tweak it ever so slightly to make it require considerable deliberation. Perhaps the acct professors changed their questions after hearing these accusations. I hope these comments won't put up additional barriers to future CPA aspirants. May be we should let it stay in the archives.

Besides these colleges do not offer degrees for these credits. There is no liability/you cannot sully their name because there is no certificate attached. I believe the ones that do confer degrees have 3rd party examiners watch you online while you take the exam.

@Recked – talk about barrier to entry, I heard there is an actual debate going on whether you would need a CPA license at all in the future for doing an audit. I have not read about it personally because I am buried inside the books for now.

@Ramana, i taken many classes both at SMC and Foothill college. None of the classes actually prepare you for FAR. Not sure which state and school you took accounting classes in but most online professors do not care about teaching. They automate everything and are basically MIA. Majority of people can't pass CPA exam without taking prep classes and studying even if they just graduated with Accounting degree.
