    Hi all,
I want your advice on getting an internship in accounting. I am currently pursuing MS in Accountancy with tax specialization. I am applying through university job portal but finding it difficult to receive the interview calls. I really want to get experience in accounting field while studying for the CPA exams.

Does your school host career fairs? That's really your best bet as you automatically get face-to-face time with the recruiters.

@Tim I do participate in the career fair and meet the firm events but somehow I do not end up getting offers. I desperately feel the need to gain the accounting experience.

i think a lot of firms are just trying to get through the 10/15 filing season right now, and hiring for internships will probably start heating back up later this month and next, so that firms have their ranks staffed out for the feb – apr busy season.

I scored my PWC internship in this same time frame and took 6 months off school my junior year to intern jan – june. It was a career fair at my college that got me locked in for it, just hung out and chatted folks up at the booths.

    Good luck to you

Be sure all your professors know your name and have a good impression of you. I am sure the recruiters discuss potential candidates with the professors.

@ReckedRacing I have really good professors, fortunately, and I have good impression as well. The only problem is that I do not end up getting offers.

Do you think maybe you could find a recruiter that you've applied with or talk to someone in career services at your school and ask them why they believe you haven't been called in for an interview? Sometimes being blunt is useful and they may provide you with feedback about something you could improve or change that you haven't thought of before.

Also, how long have you been applying? Sometimes it can be months before you hear from a company. Good luck to you

@TommyTheCat, congratulations. I desperately need to gain relevant experience in accounting. I really hope that during this recruitment season, I get the interview call and offer for busy season. Keeping my finger crossed.

@scared_cpa this time its been a month since I am applying. Last year I ended up getting 4 to 5 interview calls but unfortunately, I did not end up receiving an offer. This time I thought I should post about it in this forum to gain advice.
