On my retake of REG last quarter, I scored a 73. Stronger in Business Law and Property Transactions, Comparable in Ethics/Legal Responsibilities and Federal Tax Process, Weaker in Individual Tax and Entity Tax. Overall weaker for multiple choice and comparable on sims. I want to retake Reg at the end of this month. I’m currently rewriting notes I took using Wiley CPA excel and doing ninja multiple choice questions/audio review (first time using ninja materials). Any other helpful hints for my next retake?

Also, can I fit Audit into this quarter? My goal was to start studying Feb 1 for a March 10 test. I want to be at least 3/4 done before the new tests if possible.

I would recommend read the book if you can. Some times you miss small detail which can be clear by reading. Your score is close, just pound more MC with more understanding.

@Future_CPA_JAK You're very close to passing REG. I think 2-3 weeks is more than enough time to brush up on your materials and retake the exam especially if you scored >70. Your plan looks good so far. I like that you're doing MCQ – I'd keep cranking through those and also take the practice exams. No matter what review software you use, spend 80% of your time on tax and ethics and no more than 20% on BLaw.

You did't mention if you work full-time or go to school but regardless, 5 weeks is a good time to spend for AUD. If you make an effort to stick to your study plan, you'll be 3/4 way done. Wish you all the very best!

I may be in the minority here, but I am totally against rewriting notes. The only time I did it was when I was taking notes for my lectures and had forgotten my notebook at home, so I transposed them to my notebook for lecture notes. It was easy for me to let my mind wonder off and just mindlessly write words. Focus more on MCQ and just read your notes slowly out loud. I found when reading out loud, it made me focus more.

I second @Mitch's advice. I think rewriting notes is very time-consuming and often does not provide a good ROI. As long as you have your notes from the first attempt, make sure to read and reread them until you get to the point where you can actually visualize them. Then follow-up with MCQs. This worked very well for me esp. with the Tax section.

I disagree about studying mostly tax MCQs. BLAW and Ethics MCQ are just as important. And make sure that you do all of the tax sims.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am now seeing that rewriting notes is very time consuming and may not be worth it. Today I'm starting to reread the textbook and answer multiple questions as suggested. I do work full time so I usually spend about 2-3 hours after work and 8 on Saturday/Sunday. I'm hoping to use the last week before the test for sims and practice tests.
