    Hi Everyone,

I am a finance professional with 3 years of work experience. I recently started a position about 6 months ago. I am content with where I am as far as my daily duties and the folks around me, however the pay and benefits are very low for the location and level. Just recently, I noticed that a similar position at my dream company opened up, same city where I currently work. The pay here would be nearly 30% to 40% more and there is more room for growth and advancement. I applied, and got called for an interview. Should I take the position if I get an offer? On one hand, I would feel a bit like am letting my current manager down since am new to the team, but on the other hand, a part of me has been looking forward to working at the prospective employer for a long time.

    Thanks for your time

I think you should seriously consider taking the new job. Just be sure it isn't a case of the grass being greener.

    Congrats!

No reason not to at least interview. If nothing else, maybe you can leverage an offer into better pay at your current job.

I certainly wouldn't make a habit of switching jobs so soon, but doing it once probably isn't a big deal, especially if you think you're going to be at the new job for a while.

Definitely no harm but n interviewing, but I wouldn’t worry about what to do until you have an offer from the other company.

I was survived by the multiple massive layoffs. When company struggles, that's what many companies do. Do not feel sorry for your company or your manager for that matter. This is your life and your decision. Hope you get your dream job!

@rubytuesday88 I agree completely with @chitown87 go for the interview, if they even call you in for an interview. Don't sweat the what-ifs too much until you are getting an offer (or close to it) from company #2. And yeah, best not to make a habit of switching jobs so quickly.

If you didn't get the offer, I suggest you stop reading my post because I'm the side of “totally take the new job and here's why”. If you did get the offer, then I fail to see any real downside to not accepting it. Yes, it sucks for your current manager if you leave but your guilt shouldn't be the only thing stopping you from going for it. Everything about the other job is better and it's your dream company. Given that fact, you'd likely stay for years and being seen as a job hopper won't be an issue. There is that chance you won't like your coworkers but with room for growth and advancement you won't even be stuck with them forever.
