    Hi everyone,

As we all know, the 120 credit hour pathway to licensure has expired and to get licensed as a CPA in California, the only choice is through the 150 credit hour pathway.

I want to start a thread for those of us specifically in California and needs to meet the new 20 accounting hours and 10 ethics hours requirement.

What are some affordable ways that you all plan to meet the extra 30 credit hours in courses?

For accounting classes, I took additional online classes at University of North Alabama. I found them on this CPA forum recommended by other users. Classes are online- you can take them at your on pace. They are Wiley CPAExcel classes. Quizzes and tests are pretty easy since they are open book exams. CBA accepted these credit hours for my CPA certificate.

Would quarter system be a problem? see below from licensing handbook

    Quarter Units
Courses earned at college and universities on a quarter unit calendar must be multiplied
by a factor of 2/3 to convert to semester units. For example, 4 quarter units are
    equivalent to 22/3 semester units.

Took my classes from Foothill too. I didn't see quarter classes as a problem.. I graduated from a school with the quarter system so I was use to it. Just make sure you do the conversion to see if you have enough.

Yeah.. you can't take random classes.. You just need to take accounting related/business related classes depending on what you're missing. Did all of my requirements through Foothill college online.

Here are links to help you see what are acceptable classes for each category and what you're missing.

Just realized.. these links are only helpful if you're in California….

I just went through my college transcript. what do you guys think about the following?

is “Corporate Financial Policy” an accounting course?

I took a “The Law Relating to Companies”, does that sound the same thing as business Law?

Foothill is a great school. But I went to Mission College. I took all my accounting (24) and business (24) classes there and met the requirement. I took online and evening classes, and most of the students were like me (working full-time while studying accounting for a career advance). Anyway, I passed two sections (FAR/AUD), so I could tell you that their program isn't bad at all.

Anyway, best of luck to you.

@marqzho I'm not sure if those classes would qualify. It seems like the financial policy course could count towards business/accounting units. The best way to know for sure if they will count is to call the CBA. They are super helpful and would be able to tell you if they would accept it or not.

I checked with them today. Corporate financial policy doesn't count as accounting course but business related. If I want to challenge it, I have to submit course description when I submit my application.

I think Cabrillo College has a 4 quarter unit “Accounting Ethics” course currently – Starting 10/24/16 – 12/16/16 if you guys are interested before the new requirements on Jan 2017.
