I just received notice that the AICPA is updating their testing software in 2018, and that Q2,Q3,and Q4 candidates will only be scored once per window at the end of the testing window. Am I thinking about this correctly, that if you began in late 2016 or anytime in 2017, there would be have been extended waits for the bulk of the tests you take? considering the 2017 testing format updates and the 2018 software updates. have there ever been back to back major updates like this? is it likely conditional credits will be considered for candidates affected by these test result delays?

Ugh! I thought I got lucky not to be among those who suffered delay due to the 2017 new exam format. But as it turn out I will have to go through the 2018 hold back. Glad it’s not going to be as bad as 2Q2017 delay.

I was cranky today over this. I was hoping to get my final score at least a month sooner than this schedule, especially since I'm counting on it to make my case for a promotion. Oh well. I'll get my final score just before I go on vacation/fiscal year end hell, so at least I'll have that to look forward to.

    AUD: 87

    BEC: 90

Forgive my ignorance but what changed in 2017? I remember someone telling me it was going to be harder in the beginning of the year, but they didn't explain why. I only have to write REG to get my CPA, so I'm not really that in tune with things (I'm a foreigner).

@Jun they changed the scoring. It was MCQ 60% and SIMs 40%, but now it’s 50/50 with a little few less MCQs and a few more SIMs on the exam.

That's interesting because at every test my feedback has said the functionality of the exam was lacking. It's ridiculous how little of the screen you get to use, how difficult it is to get through all the documents with the current set up. This could be a good thing!

Maybe it's because the lap top I study on is old and Wiley's Sims don't give partial credit, but I'm actually in favor of the current software on the exam. The only thing missing (which this update seems to address) is Excel functionality. Having to type in sum and then the cells manually is not only not efficient it's down right scary that you'll mess up. So I end up always triple checking when I use the spreadsheet on the current exam and that costs time.
Does it suck that they're delaying release? Of course, but I actually think this means more people have a shot to pass that work in the field and are experts in Excel, which is many of us.

@jennifer thanks! I feel like I would have done better on the mcq so that's a shame. One of my colleagues did the iqex back in 2002. He says it was all mcq! The good old days… These exams always just get tougher and tougher.

    Three more days!

I think that the point of my post is being somewhat misunderstood. I am sure that the actual upgrades will yield long term benefits in terms of user friendliness. However, what I am more frustrated and concerned about is the consistent delay in scoring over the last 2 years being disadvantageous to the users.

In April 2018, AICPA will have new exam software. It has new interface of the exam and includes microsoft excel. The score will be again released at the end of the test window.
