I was working for three years and I quit my job in Jan 2016 to study for CPA exams and passed all of them recently, so would it be hard to find a job if I was not working while studying for the CPA exams for 10 months since that was the only reason why I quit. Any help would be appreciated.

Ten months isn't a very long time, and you spent it doing something that makes you a better job candidate. Just focus on getting some applications out as soon as you can. Good luck!

Opinions will vary on this. Some will say it's fine; some will say it's a bad idea. Personally I'd never advise someone to quit gainful employment to study for hopefully-gainful-er employment (yes, I realize “gainful-er” isn't a word haha). However, whether it's a good idea or not doesn't really matter now, cause it's done. All that matters now is what to do now that the exams are passed.

And…I'd say what to do now is job search as a full-time job. Make sure that 10 months to study doesn't stretch to 20 months due to a 10-month job search. Search for a job like your money runs out tomorrow. The sooner you return to employment the better for your resume, and hopefully all the looking and searching will allow you to find and land the dream job. But, don't hold out for the dream; when you're unemployed, there's a bit of a stigma that goes with it, and people wonder if it's voluntary or if there's something unemployable that they're missing. So, be willing to accept something that's less-than-dream, if necessary.

You've got your CPA exams passed, I assume you have the experience requirement met so are just a paperwork process away from being licensed, you have good academic qualifications. Convince people that your work is good, too, and in 5 years' time, the 10 months off shouldn't have any negative effect on your resume.

@Lilla thank you also somebody I used to know worked part-time at a small firm for a year while she was studying for the CPA exams and received checks only twice and cash the majority of times and she is wondering if she can put that on her resume.

No problem on the time off.. I was laid off last year and took 4 months off, my friend at the same job took over over a year and half and found a job quickly with NO CPA.. so you should be good to go.

On a side note – When your interviewing just explain that you wanted to fully invest into your future career by studying full time for CPA and that now you have accomplished this your ready to become a fully dedicated employee to the right company.

The job market is 100% about who your competition is for a position. If you're the best fit for a job they don't care about a gap in employment.

If your friend worked for cash:

    1. She'd better be sure that she reported the wages. If not, she'd better go back and amend her returns now to report them. Ending up in trouble with the IRS is not a good thing in the accounting world.

    2. She can definitely list it, cause it's work she did. However, if she's concerned about whether or not the firm would validate her experience if someone called for a background check, then she can always list it as self-employment subcontracting to an accounting firm, which sounds like it's the way they paid her (they didn't pay any employer taxes on her) even if not the way that she saw it.

The friend can list the bookkeeping job even though they paid cash. the cash is not the questions but the work experience. Someone from that firm should be available to validate that temp position.
