There is a great thread called something like Fit and Studying. A lot of people, me included, share how they fit in working out and studying and life. I don't think you are alone with weight gain but that thread might be a good place to read how other people have avoided it or at least fight back against it!

I've actually lost weight while studying! I'm one of those people who forgets to eat when they get really focused and in the zone. :-/

I tried to workout while studying and it just didn't work, I came up short on that exam do to lack of study time.

Since I work full-time, have a family of 5 to take care of, and a 2 hour commute I just don't have time to workout while studying. I changed some of my snacks to veggies and have lost a couple of pounds! Also, I use one of my breaks at work to go for a power-walk.

I started early 2012 and since then have gained 30 lbs. I am OVER IT and extra determined to finish these exams in the next 3 months because I can't keep living like this! lol.

I've developed an enlarged thyroid in the past 5 years or so, although doctors say my levels are normal (no thyroid condition) my metabolism surely isn't what it used to be, so between sitting all day in the office, sitting on my commute from NYC to NJ, and sitting to study for this exam, I'm not too active. Plus commuting time makes it hard to balance giving enough time to studying and working out. I'm sooooo joining my old Kickboxing gym to celebrate passing this exam. I need to get back to my pre exam prep weight, CPA licensed and fit? Can't tell me nothing after that! πŸ™‚

Jennifer and So1913: I feel your pain. Four years and 30 pounds later I am so ready to get back to where I was before the exams. I am praying that I passed FAR today and will no longer be chained to my study cave. I'm feeling better everyday after bein sick and I'm going to attack it just like the exams… A little every day! I guess this weight gain makes me a Fat Baxter. πŸ™‚

i lost 10 lbs. Just eat right and exercise. You only need 30 minutes.

I jog 2-3 miles every morning. i try to bring food to library when I study, and I eat fruits, protien fiber bars and a sandwich. I also only eat quinoa, brown rice instead of white rice (i am asian)

I will join this topic…gained 30 pounds as well. Got married last summer and started with the CPA afterwards. I have to do sports everyday to Keep my weight but I rather use my time for studying now (I know this is only an excuse and it would be only 30 min…)

Hopefully I can start exercising by the end of the month again!

I've gained about 30 pounds while finishing out college and then switching to preparing for this. I haven't really gained during this phase of things, but definitely haven't lost anything, even though I've been watching what I eat carefully. Exercising just doesn't happen. Yes, I have 30 minutes a day…but I have other things that are a higher priority for that time! However, my stress level has been getting ridiculous, so I'm going to try some working out for stress-control. But, unless it is aiding my studying in some way, it's just not a high enough priority. Some time to chill with my loved ones usually is more effective for my studying than exercising!

Also, not sure if this is just a women thing, but it's tough to combat the food cravings! I take a vitamin when I get them because I know there is a vitamin deficiency if I have the cravings, but then I still need the chocolate or salt fix anyway. Grrr

Another thing is that studying is so grueling that these cravings, at times, are something that makes a part of my day delightful.

@Jennifer241 UGH yes cravings!! Absolutely terrible. When you're stressed, it's so much easier to grab that chocolate that's looking sooo tasty than to be healthy and grab something healthy that contains the same nutrients. 😐 I actually cooked something today (chicken and garlic mashed potatoes πŸ˜€ ), and I feel full and satisfied and probably won't eat anything the rest of the evening…but usually, if I just grab something quick, I still crave good food all day!

Life choice protein energy bars have been my go-to chocolate snack. They are peanut butter and chocolate, like a Reese's peanut butter cup but with lots of vitamins!

For regular snacks, I cut up celery, carrots, baby tomatoes, brocolli and put them in small containers in the fridge. I can snack on them all day, just add a little bit of salt! Yogurt and string cheese are other snacks.

If there is a chocolate bar in the house, I will eat it within 30 minutes of studying. I didn't use to do that, I could savor it for days.
