At what point do you just go on to the next question?

I understand that when reviewing questions you got wrong, you want to see why you got it wrong and learn from it so the next time you get that question or a similar question, you can answer it correctly.

But at what point do you just say “F it” and go on? Looking at some explanations, they go into so much depth, and it would take way too long to solve the problem anyway. I just feel that sometimes it’s just better to guess and move on rather than waste extra minutes when you might not even get the answer right.

It’s not like I can understand every single question and explanation. If I did, then i’d score in the mid 90’s, but that’s certainly not the case here.

Honestly, never. Not trying to be glib but your best shot at scoring a 75 is to study as if you're aiming for a 99.

Generally people who study for a 75-80 find themselves disappointed on score release day.

I realize the temptation is there to say “eh I'll take a mulligan on this topic, its just not clicking” but I think that's a huge mistake personally. If something is giving you a lot of grief murphys law dictates you'll see it on the exam……….more than once.

@mla11692 I know my question may contradict what i'm about to say but I want to get the highest score possible that I can. And in rare cases, I think that means cutting your losses and moving on. And when I say moving on I don't mean skipping an entire section, just one question. Because the time spent worrying about one question which I may not understand could have been used to go through multiple questions that I was able to understand in the end.

I don't want to skip them completely, eventually I want to come back, I want to be efficient as possible.

I literally read the entire text two times over for each section. So if you don't understand it the first time, move on and come back to it. I wouldn't completely skip any of the material though..

There were a few questions in Becker that I personally thought were just stupid and time consuming and not worth the time to learn and skipped or guess every time lol. Chances of seeing a question like that on the exam are very small.

I think the OP was asking about questions that are similar to my response above rather than the actual topics.

My question would be does the underlying concepts of the answer not make sense or is it just the wording or presentation of that question? If it's the concept I would spend time to understand the concept. While you might not see that question or a similar question on the exam it could be possible to see that concept as the basis for a Sim on the exam. If you can't understand the concept you will not be able to complete the Sim.

I take Far tomorrow, but this is my general thought even without taking the exam yet.

If it isn't clicking, just take a screenshot, move on, and come back to it later.

“If it isn’t clicking, just take a screenshot, move on, and come back to it later.” – That's what I'm doing during my review and I have a folder for screenshots of mcq's. I plan on looking through them a couple days before my exam. I've been using Gleim's tb for my retake and they have a lot of questions that I feel are beyond the scope of what's required for REG. I try not to waste time getting hung up on the ones that use specific phaseout amounts that don't need to be memorized.

I believed in the same approach @waffle_house mentioned. Some questions in Becker were just puzzling and seemed to contradict everything I knew about the topic. I would just move on. If the other questions I got on the topic were understandable I felt good about my studying and didn't worry about it.

I took the auditors approach, 95% confident, good enough for me.

I take the same approach – I take a snapshot of it and print it out and come back to it during my review.

There were times when I spent 5-10, sometimes more than 15 minutes trying to solve the problem until I would finally give up and pick a random answer just to see the explanation; then go to the textbook to drill into the material to understand the answer. The paranoia that THIS will be the question that will cost me a point and will make a difference between pass or fail does not let me move on until I understand it. If I was flying through MCQs with scores in the 90's I would probably say f*ck it. 🙂
