AUD Exam…….WTF

I took auditing Friday and I left the exam completely frustrated. I absolutely crushed the MC portion of the exam. I felt that the second testlet was more difficult but I am confident I did well. Then came the SIMs, out of the 8, only one was research which I know I answered correctly. Of the remaining 7, at least 3 were what I felt was more FAR based simulations and were extremely long. I even got a flowchart SIM – seriously…. I studied my ass off for AUD and I have never felt as prepared as I thought I was for that exam. I was excited after the MC portion and now I am terrified I failed because of the SIMS. I bet I got between 50-70% correct on them. Feeling a bit dejected, I was hoping t only have one section left. I keep telling myself that there is a chance I passed – Anyone else have a similar experience and end up passing?

If you felt that way, so did everyone else taking it. About half are going to pass.

I felt a complete sense of dread after each of my exams. All the same. I go straight home and feel like I want to cry.

I took the AUD exam today and left feeling the same way. I haven’t taken FAR yet either so the Sims were tough for me also. Are you planning to start studying for FAR or to keep reviewing AUD just in case?

Always assume you passed and keep going. I wanted to quit after my first swing at FAR…I honestly thought I failed…and the only thing keeping me moving was how stupid I'd feel if I quit and passed. Keep going. Until it's done.

My advice – do not keep studying for a part after you've already taken the exam. You truly never know what your score will be. I was 90% sure I failed FAR. Move on to the next one. Good luck!

I’m moving on to FAR and taking it March 9th. I was hoping to pass either FAR or AUD this window so I’d only have one section left. I start losing sections in August so trying to get these last two knocked out.

Thank you @Bourne & @Aaronmo for the advice. I will move on to the next exam. What study material do you think works well with the new BEC exam?

I took BEC in Q3 or 4 of 16′. Old format. I'd have preferred newer format. Give me Sims over MCQ all day long. I used Becker…was less than thrilled with some of it, but I passed. The COSO stuff is a lot of non-sense and I found it very frustrating and arbitrary…ditto IT. They also separated sections that should have been together seemingly at random.

Becker didn't teach variance well…I remember variance being pretty easy in college, or at least not burdensome…and the way Becker taught it made it into a monster. There has to be better. It also might have been because it was my last exam, I was burnt out, and studied a lot less.

Any of you guys have any input on how the real exam compares to the practice exams offered by some review courses (difficulty, length of time it takes, etc)? I'm using Wiley, but any input is welcome. Thanks!

@ShouldaBeenACowboy-I have done mock exam in Becker-the MCQ in Becker are more difficult than the real thing, I think. The SIMS don't compare, but at least they are fairly close in the look and feel of it. Overall, I have always found mock exams to be helpful. I just wouldn't put too much faith in the scores you get.

I thought Becker difficulty on MCQ was about right. SIMs were harder…which was a good thing.

The difference is that with Becker, you just see the percentage you got right. It's not weighted. That's very different than how the CPA exam works, so it's tough to gauge. If memory serves, I was usually somewhere between 70% to 75% on Becker MCQ. I was lower than that on FAR…higher on audit.

I had a similar experience when I took audit in Q4 2017. Felt like FAR SIMs. I am just getting back into restydying for Audit. Anyone try to match these FAR like SIMs to the BLueprint?

I had the same experience only that I got a sampling SIM instead of a flow chart. At the end of the day I got an 83. If you did great on the MCQ my guess is you passed.
