Bad Results on Practice Tests

    Hi all,

I took two FAR practice tests on Wiley over the weekend and did not do well on them. I know some people advise against taking practice tests, but I decided to do them anyway. I have 17 days until I sit for FAR, in which I am going to relearn the major areas that I have forgotten about, as well as complete MCQ’s for my problem areas (bonds, pensions, etc). How many of you have taken practice tests for FAR and then was pleasantly surprised after your test results? I believe I’m doing the right thing by working through the toughest MCQ’s as a result of the practice tests and also working through all other MCQ’s that I can until exam day, but is there anything you can suggest?

Thanks guys, have a good week!

Hey I took Becker mock exams, which some people kinda compare to the Wiley ones in the sense where they are complete motivation killers and some people really struggle with them. When I took REG (my personal hardest) I took both Becker mock exams and got a 58 and a 59, but then got an 81 on the actual Exam. It's completely doable to perform well on the actual exam, use those scores as motivation to keep focusing on some weak areas. You still have 17 days for review, so you have more than enough time to really get them down pat. As far as FAR advice, I would say defiantly work on Gov't/NFP mc as that really is going to be beneficial for you and easy points on the exam. As for the bonds and pensions, keep working the mcc, and WRITE NOTECARDS, even if its small things, it personally helped me a ton.

As far as advise against taking practice tests, what is the context of that? I have said in the past that I didn't like Becker mock exams because they “back load” assessment of status which makes taking action difficult. The approach with Ninja MCQ is that essentially every MCQ session becomes a practice test, but which you can get instant feedback and learning on problem areas. In that case, the mock exams at the end may be redundant if one does 40+ MCQ sessions of 30 questions each.

In any event – I like to say getting poor results on a progress test – whether an actual mock exam or an MCQ session is good – because you can do something about it then.

Thanks guys. I was referring to the actual mock exams M123. I got a 64 and a 50 and now know what I really need to work on. I think I'm going to buy the NINJA MCQ's and audio as well for some additional help over the next 17 days

17 days is a good amount for review. Let's say 14 of those days you do 3 sessions of 30 questions. That's 1260 questions. Plus “always consuming” the audio/notes. This could happen 🙂

    FAR - 77

REG - 1. Becker only - fail (forgot to study depr - oops); 2. Becker only - Pass

AUD - 1. Becker videos; Ninja Notes, Audio, MCQ, Becker Notes - Pass
BEC - 1. Ninja Notes, Audio, MCQ, Becker Notes - Pass

I'm hoping! Just bought the Ninja Audio and MCQ's yesterday as well as already having the Wiley test bank. The last few days and the next 15 will be full of caffeine and early mornings/late nights.
