Hi I’m studying to take BEC which will be my 1st exam towards the cpa. I’m using gleim review books reading 1 chapter daily. My question is that the material is not coming back to my memory as quickly as I expected so just need some studying advice please.

BEC was very hard for me as it was 7 years out of school and I forgot all the cost accounting stuff I was taught. I would treat it as re-learning rather than trying to remember it.

    AUD - 92
    BEC - 79
    FAR - 79
    REG - 76
If I can do it, anyone can!

    AUD - 92
    BEC - 79
    REG - August
    FAR - TBD

Agreed with tskits75. Just try to do as many MCQs as possible and you will eventually remember/understand the topics!

    AUD-90
    BEC-90
    FAR- Q3 score release
    REG- Ninja in Training

I concur with everyone. By the time you are done you will have done 3,000 MCQs and re-read that book backward and forward at least 3 times. Then you will feel like there might be a chance of passing:)

I took BEC a couple days ago . I am 10 years out of school. I have to say a lot depends on luck of exam you get. Everyone here complained of many IT questions…I did not get many and the few I did were easy.

Although I got a bunch of COSO questions which I was comfortable with.

The nightmare for me was learning the variances portion of cost accounting. ECON, Operations MGMT, Strategic Planning, FIN MGMT all came somewhat easy to me. But I could not understand variances for the life of me especially overhead variances. I did get a couple questions on variances though not too bad.

    AUD - 84
    BEC - 81
    FAR - NINJA in Training
    REG - 75
    AUD - 84

    BEC-  81

    REG-75

    FAR- TBD

I took it at the end of May and just cranked mcqs only. Firm believer that if you do enough problems and pay attention to why you miss questions you will learn the material faster than reading or lectures. I did this while working full time and took 3 tests at the end of May, including BEC.

    AUD - 91
    BEC - 94
    FAR - 89
    REG - NINJA in Training

You made a good choice, by using Gleim. Having said that, I would urge you to do as many practice questions as you possibly can. If you're going at a rate of 1 chapter per day, consider your hand heartily shaked by me because even if I did not work full time, I could not do a chapter a day. I took BEC a few weeks ago and it was one of the worst exams I've ever taken in my life and I felt like such a complete dumbass while taking it. If I passed, I will seriously spend like $2,000 and take myself and my significant other on a romantic beach weekend in Malibu. It had tons of questions on topics that I didn't think were tested much. The SIMs were just plain wicked. The only good thing was the WC's, which were quite easy. And since I'm an outstanding writer (published, many times over) I'm sure I aced those. The MCQ was larded with FAR and AUD questions – not too many on COSO though, as some people had warned me of. I posted basically the same thing on another BEC thread earlier this evening. As long as you do all the practice questions, you should be good with Gleim because his program actually over-prepares people. If you can do everything in his course, I am sure you have nothing to worry about, especially if you're knocking out 1 chapter per day. Gooooooddd luckkkkk…….you probably won't need it though.
