LL I am also waiting on the 5/23/19 score release. I am freaking out a little as this was my final exam. BEC is the only thing in my way of having a life again! I actually felt well prepared going into this one and it kicked me in the butt. It was heavy on calculations right off the bat. The Sims were not overly complicated but were very long and had many components and by that time I was already running behind schedule. I was working until the very last second! To anyone taking the exam soon, be comfortable with your calculations and budget your time. It could have been luck of the draw for me. FAR was the only other exam I ran into time issues.

@Traceylynn089 I feel you. I felt prepared as well until I saw the MCQs. I don't think I did well on them. Sims are all doable in my opinion. BEC is also my last section. Hope we all can pass and get the life back!

@Traceylynn089 @LL what study material did you use that when you got to the actual exam the MCQ “kicked your butts” I'm using Becker and the MCQ in Becker are seriously kicking my butt.

What are people's thoughts on Gleim I decided to purchase the BEC section and commit to working on one study unit per evening and anything I have doubts on I can put on a list of questions I can post on here at the end of the week. I work FT so I'm rather tired by the time I get home from work.

@Nat, I have Wiley for study material. I was trending very well on their MCQ and Ok on the test exams (I always scored significantly higher on the real exam that the tests so I wasn’t overly worried). I think I did about 65% of all of the MCQ questions and I worked every single task based problem until I had them down. On the exam it wasn’t even so much the question difficulty, but their size. I think I had 5-7 heavy calculation problems in the first 10 questions and that threw me off for the entire exam. Be sure to know COSO well as many MCQ revolved around that. There were really only a couple questions that I thought were completely unexpected. Overall I thought the mix of MCQ questions were more heavy on the calculation side on than Wiley’s test exams. If Becker’s MCQ’s are kicking your butt, I would definitely focus on getting them down. Just a random tip that helped me a little-I don’t know if Becker handles the written component questions but I printed all of Wiley’s and read through them. That was like a summarized version of the study materials. I feel it helped me in studying not only how to write the essays but I picked up some things for MCQ also.

I take BEC tomorrow – not feeling so great about it. I keep missing the small stuff on questions and am having a really hard time with calculations. I didn't spend as much time on Operations Management as I should have, but at this point I'm just trying to review the stuff I know. I've passed BEC before, but it's been almost 2 years and it just feels like so much more information. Good luck to everyone taking it soon! I just want to be DONE!!

There are multiple questions similar to this and I understand how they get the total answer, but I can't see to figure out how they are calculating the interest rate in days below. That's the only part I am stuck on. Can someone help?

    Maturity in euros = 100,000

    5% interest for 90 days = 1.0125

    Discounted proceeds = 98,765

    Exchange rate per euro = $ 1.25

    Dollar yield = $ 123,456

How are you getting a question that involves Euros on a CPA exam

@BF98 This is under the Financial Risk Management Section of BEC where it talks about Foreign Currency Option Hedges. I think in this question the maturity value is the amount owed on a payable in euros.

@Eric, sounds like WileyExcel is your primary review material. It's best to supplement it with NINJA MCQ!

@Eric I'm also using Wiley and supplement with Ninja for the final review phase. Sounds like you gave yourself plenty of time to study. I have passed FAR and REG using the Wiley + Ninja Technique, and I can share my technique.

    1. The Wiley lectures are broken down into several subsections that really drill into the details. A lot of people don't want all the extra details but IMO Wiley does a good job in educating you, rather than just making you pass.
    2. I study 2-3 hours on weekdays, and 3-5 on weekends. On weekdays I plan on doing 4 or 5 subsections, and on weekends I aim for 10 every day. Of course this will vary based on how familiar you are with the topics.
    3. I prefer using Quizlet to make note cards as I'm studying rather than use the highlighting tool on Wiley. I just copy paste the terms and notes. I make a set of cards for every topic.
    4. So my studying process is that I read the text and take notes. If I'm really struggling to grasp the concept, I will watch the video (you can control the speed which is nice). Then I do the quiz in study mode.
    5. Remember the scores on the quizzes aren't your CPA exam sores, you're still learning so getting most answers wrong the first time is fine. Go back to the lesson and read it over. You can also go to the test bank and do extra questions on that topic.
    6. For FAR and REG I gave myself a cushion of 3-4 weeks of review after finishing all the sections. I have 2 weeks of review time for BEC.
    7. My final review process is opening my note cards on Quizlet and reading it over once. Then I go to the testbank and do 30 to 50% of the questions on that topic. If my score is 70 or higher then I move on. If lower, I return to the notes or text.
    8. Repeat this for all sections until you're done, then it's time to drill MCQs nonstop. Review notes, and also rewrite Ninja Notes. I listen to the Ninja audio notes on my way to and from work. Do the practice exam on the AICPA website. Practice SIMs for topics you are week in.

    and that's about it!

Took BEC today. It was horrible. I studied with Becker. Did countless practice exams. The first testlet was hard with alot of calcs. I felt like the questions Becker asked were easier. I got a few COSO questions and 1 economics question. They said that's highly tested but didnt find so in my exam. The TBS require are involved bc there's more than 1 part. Overall, this was a killer. I think the aicpa is out to get you:///

@Han – great, just what i wanted to hear. I'm taking it next week and also using Becker. Ive been doing the MCQ over and over so much so I can't stand it anymore. also heard COSO was very important, but not on your exam. It's hard to tell in BEC what is “important”

I did like 90 of those mc practice exams mixed with tbs. If you can, maybe try new questions. I think I got used to seeing similar questions. Best of luck!

I had the same experience with BEC on the 28th. There were like 3 MCQs of material not covered by Becker. For the most part I think I did well enough there. I felt decent on the first 3 TBS, but the 4th was an absolute BEAST. I started it with 2 hours left and a goal of having at least 1 hour for all 3 writing parts, and ended up spending the full hour on the Simulation and still making guesses which didn't fully make sense to me. I just really hope it was a pre-test sim since this is my last exam.

Just took my BEC exam the other day. The MPQ were pretty good, tested everything especially IT. My first sim testlet was redonk and I took way too long. The second sim testlet was fine, did a little better. The written wasnt bad, I'd probably only save 45 minutes for it if I have to take it again. Tip on MPQ – Skip all of the calculation type questions on the first pass through then circle back and answer them. That will save you from freaking out as far as time. I'm not sure if I passed, it could go either way and I wouldnt be surprised.

Anyone else sitting for the exam this week? I'm taking it on the 10th and I'm really hoping I can get through final review by Thursday so I have the whole weekend to focus on problem areas and drilling MCQs. I'm listening to the Ninja audio on my work to work and back as well.

Stay focused guys, we're almost there!

I would focus on SIMS and Written Communication since they're near the end of the exam.

As for SIMS calculations usually they are provided depending on the question. I would memorize the Financial Valuation calculations as well as any other formulas related to present value and interest.

Took it today. You definitely need to know everything because mine covered basically every topic. It was very computational heavy MCQs, too. I don't even have a clue if I passed, just hoping for the best.

The calcs were pretty straightforward, but you also need to know what the equations mean. Not sure if every one will get that much calculation but I would suggest to be familiar with all of them just in case!
