Got my BEC score today and failed with a 73.
Do you think it’s worth appealing?
Do you think the wirtten communication part was manually reviewed as I got a close score or was it initially verified by a computer?

Would appreciate your comments/opinions.

First make sure your state actually lets you appeal – there are quite a few states that don't allow it.
Personally I don't think it's worth it. It's $500 just to appeal and then $100 per question you want them to review again or something crazy like that. They even say less than 1% of people who appeal are successful. It'd be much cheaper to pay the testing fees and pass it the next time.
