So, I am about half way through the BEC material through Wiley. I am honestly so confused, I feel like a complete idiot. I also have the 10 point combo. Should I switch to the Ninja Plus? I usually learn better by videos through examples. So, I am thinking this is the way to go, but I am not so sure.

What do you think?? I am taking the exam on 3/10/17, So I do not have a lot of time to figure it out…

I honestly hate the number 67..... officially the worst number ever. Ugh, but 73 feels so much worse.

    AUD -  67 ; 73 - retake August.

    BEC - 69

    FAR - 63, 67, Retake TBD

    REG -  eventually 🙂

Be patient and keep at it, that's my advice. I just took BEC back on Monday and felt the same way throughout certain portions of my studying. The more you proceed and keep hitting the MCQ it starts to all come together. I was about over it with cost accounting and then the more I learned from my the MCQ I missed the better.

Full disclosure I'm doing Roger, not Becker.

My exam is actually this Friday, February 17th. I made a 72 on my first attempt back in December. I was only using Becker to study for all parts and since Becker expired, I ended up purchasing Roger for only BEC. I find that the more multiple choice questions you do, the more the information made sense especially when it comes cost accounting (least favorite subject). I am also using Ninja multiple choice questions. I find that Roger does a good job in explaining costing.

    Keep at it!

Sorry, this is not related to this topic, I just really want to know if @TommyTheCat has any advice on REG? I'm taking it for the third time in April and with a score like yours I'm hoping you have good advice? 🙂

Depending on how much free time you have to study, I would put the CPA materials down. Go relearn anew the basic theory of the specific topics you're struggling with.

Yes, I would recommend PLUS. I only used it for FAR, because I already had the other three exams completed before Jeff offered it. BISK summarized and explained exactly what you need to know. Presumably, BISK for BEC is the same.

More to the post, I would need to know which topics you're struggling with. If it's the financial formulas try “MBAisBullshitdotcom” on YouTube. If it's CVP and budgeting, try “Tony Bell” on YouTube.

Then, once you understand these topics better I would go back to non-stop MCQ. Afterall, you have to be able to understand the solution so you can reproduce it.

As a rule of thumb, I didn't feel I knew the material for everything tested until I could explain it sufficiently to someone else. As a CPA, we would have to explain our work to clients and bosses. Sorry to rant.

Anyway, I hope that helps. You may only need to devote an extra day or two to it. Then resume studying w CPA review materials.

For pass-thru entities this website was pretty helpful: https://tax.cchgroup.com/downloads/files/contemporary-tax-practice/Module4/Topic3/B-Corporate-Alternative-Minimum-Tax-Computations.asp. Go through all the Modules. The quizzes don't quite format well but it's free.

Hey, thanks for all the advice. What I seem to having trouble with is economics sections itself. I seem to get lost while I am reading the material. It has been a LONG time since I have seen some of the terms in these chapters and I believe I was getting myself confused based on the interpretation of the material. So, I spent most of today following your advice. I pt down the material and watched some youtube videos on micro and macro basics. Also, wrote out all the terms with 2 to 3 word definitions. Spent about 3 hours on this until I felt “okay”. Now, I am still a bit confused within the Macro and micro section, but mainly because i can not place the theory with the graphs given in Wiley. For instance, I understand that when supply increase then demand decreases, but when the supply curve and demand curve graph is illustrated I can not “get it”. For instance I know by review that the curve will supply curve with increase to the right and decrease to the left BUT i can not understand how to determine this from the graph. Say for example, we have a graph that shows you the supply curve, demand curve, and equilibrium. the question is given would be how what does the second quantity be an increase in supply or a decrease in demand?? Then i am unsure where the stop the vertical line at, the demand line or the supply line. I hope this makes sense. I am trying to explain this because the image will not transfer into the comment box.

Do you think I am focusing too much on the graph and should be okay with the concept of supply curve and shift, as well as supply demand curve and shift??

I honestly hate the number 67..... officially the worst number ever. Ugh, but 73 feels so much worse.

I had trouble with those same things. I also had trouble with some of the WIP numbers and split off products/joint products/by-products. The first time I took BEC, i wasn't confident so I moved my test date out a few months. I reworked the same problems several times. Just reworked them over and over until I could reproduce the correct answer with all the steps by memory.

For the economics, I ended up memorizing what the graphs looked like for the different supply/demand/inflation situations. I also memorized what the graphs look like for solving business problems.

I used Becker. I tabbed the pages with those and would look at those pages while sitting at the kitchen table eating.

@Lucy – happy to give any advice on REG I can. Full disclosure I have been working in tax for 10 years so it's in my wheelhouse so to speak. That being said I really studied my ass off for this exam, using Roger and made sure I dedicated all the time needed to complete ALL of the lectures, all of the multiple choice and sims. Then I re-did all of the ones I had missed and made sure I read thoroughly the explanations of the right answers and re-took them all.

My advice would be to focus on the tax stuff hardcore, specifically individual taxation and partnership/s-corp basis concepts (inside/outside basis). The business law stuff was the stuff I studied the least since I figured I'd have enough of a solid working knowledge of it from my experience working with attorneys to set up and liquidate business entities and day-to-day operations and what-not. I think you can get by on the b-law stuff if you have a good grasp on the tax stuff and the below securities act stuff.

I really hit the 1933 and 1934 Securities Acts content hard, since I have only had a few public company clients in my past and never really dealt with that.

BEC and REG I feel are in my strong areas, I got my BS in Economics. I am DREADING AUD. I cannot stand audit, avoided it like the plague so far in my career.

Best of luck to you and fire away if you have any more questions.

oh and meant to state it at the end of my post….give it as much or even more time than you think it needs. I spent two and a half months studying REG. What review material are you using? I am a big fan of Roger.

@TommyTheCat thank you, your post is helpful! I'm currently using Wiley for my review course, but planning on getting Roger's cram course for this next retake. I agree with you about the blaw section, I felt like I was able to grasp those concepts quickly and maintain my understanding of them. I've been pretty close to that beautiful 75 both times I've taken it, so I'm hoping really focusing my energy on the topics you mentioned will help me. Thank you, and I wish you luck on your AUD adventure! 🙂
