BEC Spreadsheet necessary?

Is the spread sheet necessary in BEC?

Some of the sims I have taken in my practice materials for GLEIM make extensive use of the spreadsheet.

I needed to use it to find the IRRs for certain projects, calculate standard deviations and variances. Discount cash flows.

Tried to use the spreadsheet for other exam. It is NOT the same as Excel, believe me. Personally, I got annoyed with it. Give a try if you think it may help you. Just do not spend too much time.

My question is if I will need to derive things like the PV factor, standard deviations, or if those number would be given to me.

Hence, should I worry about familiarizing myself with some of the more advanced functions on the cpa spreadsheet?

Granted the form of the exam changed after I passed.

But I think the testmakers just give you a choice of factors to use and you'd have to pick the right one.

They want to know that we can analyze the numbers and explain how they came to be. We arent actuaries.

I didn't have to on my BEC, worst I saw on any practice MCQ was giving you the discount rate and having to calculate the PV 2 years out. I do like the spreadsheet for the sims sometimes when you have alot of information out at once and different numbers to fill in, so yes I would get used to how the spreadsheet works but I wouldn't worry about the advanced functionality of it
