Becker 2017 Reg Book-potential problem?

Apologies in advance…this is my first post!

I am scheduled to take Reg at the beginning of July, and have just started studying with Becker (I only have time each week to get about one chapter done). My problem is, I like to use the book beforehand to read and take notes. When I went to redeem the book, I got an email from Becker saying that they are updating the book at the end of May, and won’t send it out until then! When I spoke with them over the phone (after a 50 minute hold time), they said that the changes are going to be ‘tax law updates/changes.’ Would I be better suited to wait to start studying for the finalized book, or could I be okay to keep going now? Or should I attempt to reschedule my test? I guess my question is, what do they mean by tax law changes? They did not give me a very clear answer.

They probably mean they are updating tax rules and numbers that are in effect for 2017, such as 2017's standard deduction amount, etc. I'm not sure if taking the exam in July will test 2016 or 2017 rules/numbers but there is honestly not much difference. I took REG in August'16 (supposed to be tested on 2016 numbers) but used a 2015 book and just googled major differences and was fine.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They're probably just changing dollar amounts and nothing too too major. I originally bought my Becker books in late 2014…and never got around to really using them until mid 2016. So I was studying FAR, BEC, and AUD using old books. On their old site (and Im sure they have the very same thing on the new) there was a section that listed the literal exact changes that they made to every page…and it wasn't that long either (and this was 2 years later and multiples different “versions”). They even had those pages available to print out. I just put a giant X through the original pages in my actual book and then had the print out to switch over to. I wouldn't wait to just start studying. It won't be that hard I'd imagine to make the adjustments later…

    AUD - 93
    BEC - 85
    FAR - 90
    REG - 91

I am in the same boat as you @afkg. I would imagine that the only thing Becker is updating is the exemption/deduction numbers to match 2016 but as we know, the exam stays away from amount types that update every year.

What is your plan for this as I am in the same situation. I don't see how the changes could be drastic but Becker doesn't really explain what they mean by changes to the book will be made July 1, 2017. What's your plan?

    BEC - 77

    AUD - 85

    REG - TBD

    FAR - Q2
