What’s so great about Becker CPA Review? I loved the Roger CPA Review Course and actually found his lectures entertaining at times. He’s engaging and does a great job covering the materials. I know it’s considered industry standard and pushed very early at the university level while accounting students are finishing up their bachelors. However I’ve heard it’s extremely intense with the sheer volume of material they cover, oftentimes leaving students overwhelmed. Not to mention its crazy expensive compared to other review programs. I haven’t used becker but wonder what all the fuss is about.

I cannot say anything good or bad about the other exam prep programs. All I can say is Becker worked for me. Does Becker cover everything, no, it covers what you need to know to pass. I will say, I think self study is the way to go. Unless you are really undisciplined, the live classes are a waste of time. They just show the same video in class.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker

I agree that the Becker material is comprehensive, but I feel like it helped me both prepare for the exam AND actually learn the material. The lectures/homework are intense, but you need that intensity in order to pass sections like FAR. Despite certain annoying characteristics (Gearty repetition, Olinto speed talk, all around awfulness of the IT guy), the instructors know their stuff and are a lot better teachers than other programs I've seen.

The best part I liked about Becker is that they claim that if you listen & take notes during all the lectures, complete every MCQ, and practice every sim… you will pass. Realistically, you're likely to pass using other materials depending on how much effort you put into it, but it's comforting to know that Becker's plan will definitely* work if you just follow their lead.

*Sure, there will be those that don't pass. But I feel like it's true if you're lucky enough to be able to work through everything without too much interruption.

    FAR - 87 (7/19/13)
    BEC - 82 (8/29/13)
    REG - 86 (10/18/13)
    AUD - 91 (12/06/13)

I agree with wowurrcool – the Becker program is very comprehensive. I personally liked having the live classes, because it forced me to get started on each topic. I also used the Becker Final Review, which was helpful in focusing those last few days on the major topics. Here in TX, the Becker live final review class in Dallas was VERY helpful in hammering home the concepts. It probably added at least 10 points to my AUD and FAR scores, maybe more for FAR.

If there is a weakness with the Becker program, it is with BEC. There were several MC on the BEC exam that I had not seen covered in Becker. But we all know BEC is a crapshoot on the topics. So I went up for a rematch on 12/4/13 and we'll see how that panned out.

    IMHO

    REG 75
    FAR 88
    AUDIT 82
    BEC 74, 12/4/2013 84 Thank You Lord Jesus !!!

I have looked at a lot of posts looking for trends of people who had a easier time passing with certain review courses. I have not been able to notice anything. People pass using all common review courses.

That being said the Becker books are far better than anything else I have seen. Lectures aren't as good as yaeger or rogers. But yaeger and rogers don't have additional test banks.

I will be using cpa excel for regulation and audit so I want to do a detailed comparison in the future.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
