Has anyone ever taken the live Becker Review classes? I am thinking about taking FAR that way and I wanted to hear if anyone had experience with that.

I've gone to the final review course for both FAR and Audit. For FAR, I had not taken the exam yet, and for Audit, I had received a 74 on my first try and took the final review right before my second attempt. In my opinion, the overall effectiveness of the class depends alot on who the teacher is and how good he/she is covering the material. In my case, my weak areas in FAR were chapters 5, 6, & 7 if I remember correctly, and the professor for those chapters did not do a single practice question (MC or Sim) and just stood in front of the class and lectured. People actually just fell asleep on their desks and some even walked out and left. Since it's $150 for the course I stayed the entire time, but I was extremely ticked off that the guy did not do a single practice question even after we asked him that was what we wanted. He claimed “there wasn't enough time.”

The book they give you does do a good job highlighting the important parts of each chapter, and there are new sets of MC and SIMS to work on as well.

@chiefs5021 thank you for response! I have heard the same reviews regarding the professor that teaches it. Did you pass FAR? THat is the one that I am the most nervous about and I feel like perhaps I just need to have a VERY STRICT study schedule and do it at home.

    Thanks!

Becker live classes can either be hit or miss depending on your instructors. I had great ones who would stay late after class to help you with hw questions, gave you their cell so you can call, etc

    BEC - 80 (Becker)
    AUD - 92 (Becker+NINJA MCQ)
    FAR - 87 (Becker+NINJA MCQ)
    REG - 90 (Becker+NINJA MCQ and Audio)

    My personal experience:

I started with Live classes for FAR. During the 2 to 3 hour mark, I would be so burnt out that the last hour was a blur. I like to describe the classes as having Accounting “thrown” at you. The turning point for me came during the last couple of chapters (Government and Not For Profit). I really didn't get these topics at first and after going through the Live class I didn't feel good about them at all. Over the weekend I sat down and watched the lectures from the online self study and realized that the lectures were 99.95% identical to the Live classes.

For AUD, BEC and REG I switched to self study and found good success doing so. The big thing was the ability to go at my own pace and when I started to feel tired or burned out, I could pause the lecture and go clear my head. I found that I could only go for about one and a half to two hours at a time before needing a significant break. The result was I went much slower but I gained a better understanding of the material. Live classes try to push two chapters a week. Going on my own I averaged one chapter a week but I had a much better understanding of that chapter.

    Just my experiences.

I did live classes for all of them except REG due to none of them fitting my schedule and I figured after getting three out of the way I could handle it myself. One thing I liked with the live classes is that it gave me structure which kept me on track.

    BEC - 80 (Becker)
    AUD - 92 (Becker+NINJA MCQ)
    FAR - 87 (Becker+NINJA MCQ)
    REG - 90 (Becker+NINJA MCQ and Audio)

for live classes you mean on your computer correct? not actually attending a class. Also for those is there a specific requirement that YOU need to be “by your computer” when the classes are happening?

again, thank you for all the responses!

I also liked that they kept me on track.

If you are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and can take live review with Liliana Hickman-Riggs (LHR) at the Becker Dallas location, its 100% worth it.

So far I have had her for FAR (with the exception of Econ and IT) and BEC. Her husband taught the Econ and IT portions of FAR.

She also teaches AUD and her husband teaches part of REG. I believe they bring in an outsider for the Business Law parts of REG.

If you aren't in the DFW area but can afford to travel there for 2-3 days, I highly recommend her live Final Review. The one for FAR was basically a 14 hour simulation drill. There is a Prometric center not far from the classroom location and students have been known to travel to Dallas, attend her live review on Saturday, spend Sunday brushing up their weak areas, test first thing Monday morning, and fly home Monday afternoon.

The best part about LHR is that she provides materials above and beyond those provided by Becker at her own expense and makes herself very available to her scholars (that's what she calls her students).
