BECKER – REG COMPLAINTS

    I hate to come on A71 and complain and whine. I know everyone is making endless sacrifices for these exams and they are very, very difficult – no doubt.

    However, I am really struggling with Becker’s materials for REG. Becker does a HORRENDOUS job explaining Basis and their TBS are crap too. Also, I have found many, many mistakes in their MCQ’s and a few TBS. Furthermore, Becker has done a TERRIBLE job allocating time spent on certain MCQ modules. I have absolutely NO IDEA why Becker focused so much time and energy on Business Law, rather than focusing on Taxation. The amount of MCQ’s Becker has in Business Law is just disgusting. They should take 200-300 of those MCQ’s and allocate them to Entity Taxation.

    As a result of Becker’s mistakes, I have had to scour the Internet, the IRC, A71, and old documents to help me understand WTH I need to do for Taxation because clearly Becker does not cut it with this new Exam. I paid $3000+ and I expected a lot more than what I have received from Becker’s materials for that ridiculous price tag. I thought a “review course is all you need to pass these exams.” Im not so sure about that statement anymore. God, I wish I still had my old Tax books and homework from undergrad to get some clarification!

    Okay, my rant is over, but I hope someone from Becker reads this. I know all I can do is study my ass off and scour the Internet for additional resources.

    Goodluck everyone. I’m sure I’m not alone with these thoughts.

    @blue collar nerd

    I'm just about to start chapter 3 but I am beginning to see what you are talking about. I'm thinking about getting the Gleim test bank as a supplement for $225. Its nice to read something (lecture notes) and solve a problem instead of having to work backwards to derive the answer. People say Gleim lectures are dry but maybe I'll learn from the questions.

    BEC = 79

    AUD = 79

    FAR = 84

    REG = 86

    Prayer + AICPA blueprints = my success

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    You couldn’t have said it any better. Working backwards is terrible. Becker has been a huge disappointment for REG – especially considering the price tag of Becker.

    I may purchase Gleim or Ninja as a supplement if they have additional REG TBS.

    Thanks for your help and Goodluck.

    I was disappointed with the number of business law questions in NINJA's test bank relative to the other sections. Business law is like 1/3 of the test bank or 600 MCQ.

    Many people on this forum have said that Gleim REG over prepared them for the REG exam within the last year. They said that the SIMs were especially good. I'm waiting until Monday to purchase it so I can talk to a sales rep and see if I qualify for any discounts.

    Nice. I may look at Gleim’s TBS if they are pretty good. I need to make a change because Becker is not cutting it.

    Thanks for your help!

    I haven’t had any complaints about a lack of tax questions in the REG MCQ. 1,200-ish tax questions at 2 min a piece to answer, read explanations, etc is 40 hours of nothing but tax mcq – plenty to keep you busy, in my humble opinion.

    I passed the REG with a score of 91 using only Becker and I had no previous US tax knowledge whatsoever (I was a foreign candidate and ensglish is my second language). Looks like you wrote the exam once before but, when I took it think 40% of my MCQ testlets were BLAW based. Don't get me wrong, I do not think Becker is perfect, I don't think it covered all the tested material on the exam but it was enough for me to pass this exam.

    Good luck with your studies

    I felt the same way you did about REG. I passed with a good score (old format), but I did use other resources. They gloss over the complicated topics like it ain't no thang and then bog you down on the easier Blaw sections. Why? It makes no sense.

    I supplemented by:

    Buying the Ninja supplement.
    Watching the free Roger videos on partnership. Roger makes Partnership very straight forward.

    @ Jeff

    Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. I am highly considering supplementing with Ninja or Gleim st this point. Becker is not cutting it – especially for S Corps.

    Goodluck everybody.

    I definitely will. Paying $3000+ for Becker I expected a lot more than what I received. I’m sure Ninja gives you a lot more bang for your buck!!!

    For the record, I'm not a NINJA hater. I've used the MCQ for every section thus far (I've done 60 MCQ in REG but don't think I want to continue with it) and I've used the notes for some sections. I highly recommend the MCQ for BEC, AUD, and FAR. I own Becker and Wiley currently. I've used Gleim and Fast Forward Academy for other certifications. I also have experimented with Yaeger but never with Roger.

    I believe in getting the most for your money but also using the system that is going to help you pass the first time around (something that I would like to do for REG). Sometimes, this means using a combination of products. The reason why Gleim appeals to me for REG is because I think that it's distribution of multiple choice in its test bank, reflects the latest blueprints for the exam better. Also, the SIMs have been updated to mirror the latest exam. Most people on this forum say that Gleim over prepared them for the REG exam. Sometimes, you need a system that over prepares you because it's your last exam section and you are about to lose a part due to expiration (you want additional assurance).

    I'm not the only one who has complained about # of business law questions being especially high in the NINJA REG test bank. You can do a Google search if you don't believe me. 1200 questions might be enough for the average test taker. I need more because I need extra practice.

    In the end, do what's best for you. Everyone is different.

    I just bypassed the questions on Blaw and did as many of the other questions as I could. I did answer some blaw questions and studied it but overall, I think it is good to know. Focus on tax law the most. Especially entities. I honestly don't think it matters too much on which program you get. I had three programs and most of the questions are the same. So be careful in purchasing another software for MCQ's.I think it really comes down to how you learn best. Roger is really good at explaining things and keeping you engaged. NINJA is great for the notes and MCQ's. Wiley was good but really dry. So it just depends on your learning style and the amount of time you devote to your studies. If you're like me, you need to study more than other people and in a variety of different ways. Going to the internet and using Google is a great way to back up knowledge in a different way than your program might have explained it.

    Thanks everyone. Yes, I’m sure there is some overlap among the review courses. Im just really disappointed because I paid $3000+ for Becker. Becker is decent, but they really cut some corners on important topics and dig deep in topics that are not that relevant. It is what it is.

    I may supplement with Ninja, but I have been using the IRC to clarify topics.

    Goodluck everyone.

    Might as well post my question in here.

    Becker is not tracking my progress on my REG course at all. Something is messed up with my user interface. Anyone run into this and know of any fixes? I have Reg on 12/8, and I may switch back over to Gliem for a re-take in January if I need to.

    I didn't quit.

    Becker, Wiley & Ninja are fine CPA review materials. The reason why there are so much of Business Law because pre-2004/2005 CPA Computerized Exams, BEC used to be ‘Business Law (BLaw)'.

    From 2004/2005 Computerized CPA exam format, business law related topics have been spread out, which majority went to REG (use to be Accounting & Reporting (ARE-pre 2004/2005), BEC & AUD.

    Friendly advice, and word of caution, as being a fellow candidate who just to took ALL sections (REG/AUD/FAR/BEC) in 2017 Q3, don't underestimate ‘Business Law' contents, you have to re-study this material each time you take REG/BEC/AUD exams. Business Law are ‘easy marks', hardly any calculations. But you have to know this area well. It might be those marks that you need, to have that passing mark.

    Oh, just did all BEC's Corporate Governance & REG's Business Law and other related topics, at least 1000+ MCQs, they aren't too bad. A little rusty, but it's coming back!:)

    Good luck.
