BECKER – REGULATION Chp’s 6-8

Any Becker users have any advice for chapters 6-8 for REG? The chapters are Federal Tax Procedures, Business Law 1, and Business Law 2 respectively.

So far Becker has done a terrible job in Chp 6 with Perter Olinto, which is very surprising. Usually Mr. Olinto does a really good job, but he has me underlining way too much sh*t.

I’m going to grind through the chapters, but I am tempted at times to just get to the MCQ’s. And, I need to get back to my Tax studies as that is more heavily tested.

Any advice from Becker users who have had the same experience with chapters 6-8 REG?

    Thanks!

I use Becker and REG is the only exam I've passed thus far. I honestly rarely use any of the lectures because I felt like they were a bit dull and as you stated, you are either highlighting WAY too much (which happens often); or they skip over whole pages.

I'd recommend going over the book on your own and doing the MCQ's and the Sims. Just my recommendation, best of luck, you're almost there!

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, a lot of Becker's lectures are a complete waste, but sometimes they provide great numonics and tricks for calculations. However, I absolutely cannot stand when u have to highlight all over the book – that is NOT learning.

Sometimes I wonder whether or not I would have been better off with Ninja or Roger. Also, I struggle with balancing my time anong lecture, MCQ, Sims, and writing notes. It pisses me off when I spend an hour writing notes and barely any of it is covered in the MCQ's! Can't stand it!

I'll stop my rant. Goodluck everyone.

Definitely know those last three chapters and definitely know chapter 6. I do agree with you the lecture part of chapter 6 isn't that good but the material is there for you and it's the shortest chapter probably in all of the four sections of Becker. Put the time in those chapters (especially with chapter 6) and they're easy points on the exams.

Thank you for reinforcing the “no-shortcuts” rule that I have always followed. I'm just burned out and want to make sure I master the Taxation area. However, after diligently working through ethics and business law, I will mostly focus on tax.

    Goodluck fellow Ninjas.

I've always watched all the lectures, read the book as I'm going through the lectures as they skip some items, and take notes first and foremost. I feel like if you start rushing and skipping items your not setting a solid foundation. The mcq, sims and skill lessons just reinforced the materials.

I watched every lecture and during review time re-watched as many lectures as possible and I passed all 4 tests the first time. Put in the work and time and it will defiantly pay off. No short cuts.

I agree 100% with putting in the Work – no doubt. But, when Becker turns their books into a Coloring Book – that is not learning. Period. I could have used my time and energy elsewhere.

Becker's new material is better than their old material because they have finally tried to “dumb down” their books and relax on the highlighting. I am just surprised that Peter Olinto is having me do the “highlight this, highlight that” because he does not usually teach like that. Chapters 1-5 were taught much better than 6.

I'll stop my rant and get back to putting in the Work because that's what counts. It's just disappointing when you spend $3000+ and you get some chapters that are straight crap.

Goodluck everyone. I'm tired and moody as u can see! Back to the Grind!!

I just took my reg exam a couple weeks ago using Becker.

For chapters 6-8, I'd first recommend opening the pre-annotated book and copy down only anything that is double underlined, starred, says “memorize,” and mnemonics. Second, I'd recommend reading each module and taking notes on major topics, mnemonics and anything you underlined in your book from the pre-annotated version. Third, I'd recommend doing the skills practice immediately after reading. Next, the MCQs for each module immediately. At the end of each section do a practice test containing all previous chapters and the current chapter.

Hope that helps. Olinto underlines too much, you can't even comprehend everything when you are underlining so much. Most of the material underlined did not appear on my exam, FYI. Also, some business law I had on my exam was NOT covered at all in Becker (including a sim).

Don't worry about skipping the actual lectures, for chapters 6-8 they are not beneficial if you read the material yourself. I made the mistake of viewing all the lectures and after taking the exam I can say it was a huge waste of time that could've been devoted to other topics or having a social life.

I took REG in July and thought Becker did a good job on those last 3 chapters. What I found worked best is if I listened to the lectures, without following along with the book and then skimming the book on my own and making notes and flashcards. Then doing MCQ and SIMS. I didn't find Blaw or ethics heavily tested on my particular exam in July.
