Becker to Roger Switch?

    Hey guys.

Has anyone switched from Becker to Roger with success? I am not sure Becker is hitting on my learning style. Throughout school I excelled because I would learn in class, then hammer homework problems to understand the material. I feel like I need that “in class” feel that Roger provides. Becker lectures put me to sleep and highlighting and circling is NOT learning. Becker book seems to cover general information only to jump into MCQ that seem to have no correlation to the material just covered.

I am using Becker because my firm is paying for it. I have used Rogers lectures several times because I like the way he teaches.

So my question is, abandon Becker and go Roger or stick with Becker and supplement with Roger YouTube videos?

The “box off” and “highlight” theme of Becker was the biggest sore spot for me. But thousands of candidates have gone through Becker. My suggestion would be to supplement with Ninja as an alternative to just changing main prep. If you go to Roger – you may still want to use Ninja.

Rogers lectures are WAY better than Beckers. If lectures are important to you then I suggest purchasing Roger.

For me, the most important study material has been the NINJA MCQ. I think that the lectures can only get you so far. You have to dive into questions to get all the little details that you can't get from the lectures, and probably wont remember from reading the book.

big fan of roger's material and teaching style. i feel like he gets to the point in his lectures and has an engaging way to help you learn what you need and not all the fluff that you dont. His textbooks are written in the same style. Supplement if you think you need to but I personally havent found the need to go beyond his basic package, 2 for 2 and waiting for score 3 next week. Studying FAR and thought it was going to be the hardest of the bunch and so far I like it the most, and I'm a tax guy who thought REG would be my favorite section.

I've used Becker, Bisk, and Wiley test banks here and there and dont feel like any compare much to roger.

    Good luck to you.

It wasn't until my 3rd exam that I figured out how well written and comprehensive the Becker textbooks are and quit watching the lectures. At the top of each chapter in the software is a link to the “Pre-Annoted eBook”, I used this to copy the notes from the lectures, excluding the underlining/circling/boxing etc. There were certain topics I would watch the video but only as a last resort and depending on the lecturer. If you haven't already done so, give the textbooks a chance. Otherwise go for the Ninja materials.

I chose rogers because of his lectures, some people on this site believe he's annoying but I think he's very engaging and makes the learning fun. His jokes are usually corny (some are hilarious) but it keeps things loose and enjoyable. He makes this whole CPA process much less miserable.

Agree with @minismom. I am sticking with Becker as my main study materials. Since my Becker materials are pre-2015, I am supplementing it with Ninja, Wiley & various cpa review provider videos.

Roger's videos are definitely on top of my list. You can watch him for hours without falling asleep. Tim G. & Peter O. are alright, at least they are also fun to listen to, Like Roger P.

Overall, both Becker and Roger CPA review materials are meant for those who like to use their materials for a while, at least until they passed.

In fairness, I haven't really fully used Ninja/Wiley materials each time I purchased, at least since 2015-March 2017 for Ninja and 1999-pre-2016 for Wiley. I always run out of time. I like the SIMs part, which I can briefly make notes out of them.

Also, I haven't really listened to any Ninja's audios either (except for Economics/Indv. Taxes), so I cannot say much about it. Bisk videos are great, especially FAR. However, you have to take notes while listening to them, which is one thing I missed while my subscription was active.

I have been accustomed to Becker's textbook, so I never really purchased and tried reading Ninja textbook. I don't know what's in it. I heard a lot of good things about it though.

For now, I am happy with my review materials. If I ever need to purchase additional materials, I might go with Ninja for its MCQs/SIMs app. It's great for MCQs & SIMs practice (if you have time), especially building up speed for calculation problems, and making notes with its SIMs.

Becker vs. Roger? They are both good to have for CPA Review materials (if you can afford it), either one is fine.
