Waiting on results for REG, figured I'd start on the “ethics” portion. Am having a bit of trouble figuring out all the details/discounts available for different societies.
AICPA – This is the national group. I've heard that there is a discount on state level ethics material if we join? There are different options but looking to join the “associate” or “affiliate”. Affiliate is supposedly $35?
CalCPA Ethics Material – They seem to be the issuer of the ethics exam in CA. The ethics material prices said $150 for non-member, $125 for member. Are they referring to a CalCPA “Candidate” membership. Looks like for CAL CPA its free for the first year an $50 for 2nd? Then bumps up to the “Associate” afterwards which is close to $500.
So, joining CalCPA makes sense now as we get a $25 discount for free…what is the benefit of joining the AICPA prior to actually getting licensed? Just curious if anyone has been there before.February 27, 2012 at 10:19 pm #336746
In CA you have to do the one offered by CalCPA.
Join CalCPA first and save some money. Free membership the first year. No brainer. I dont think you need to join the AICPA yet.February 27, 2012 at 10:47 pm #336747
Thanks. Just signed up for CalCPA and waiting for membership approval.February 27, 2012 at 10:54 pm #336748
They should be pretty quick with their approval. I think it only took a few days when I did it last year.March 9, 2012 at 9:43 pm #336749
I just got the result of my last part.. and I can't believe it !! I got 80 in FAR after studying for 15 days !!!
Thank you Jesus thank you thank you Jesus !! :))
Now, I am looking forward to complete the steps for getting the certificate and the license..
I was expecting that the board will send me the steps on e-mail or something.. but I actually got nothing from them !!
Can anybody help me in these stuff, I am in CA.March 9, 2012 at 9:54 pm #336750
Congrats! Yeah, they arent sending you anything.
You need to do the Ethics (see link above).
You'll need to fill out some forms, get your fingers scanned, etc. This link will have all the information you need.March 9, 2012 at 10:40 pm #336751
Thank you, Minimorty for the precious info.
And, do I have to fill all these forms !!?March 9, 2012 at 11:01 pm #336752
You have to fill out all of the required forms based on what type of candidate you are (A-F). The handbook should have all of the information you need, but yes, there are 4 or 5 forms that you'll need to fill out. You also have to have your boss sign off on your experience. He/she will fill that form out and send it in.March 9, 2012 at 11:52 pm #336753
@minarick you should receive a letter in the mail from the CBA in about a week. The letter will instruct you on what you have to do as well.March 10, 2012 at 12:55 am #336754
Congrats man! 15 days? That's a miracle!!
I asked CBA and they said in about 3 weeks from passing you get a congratulatory letter and instructions on the licensing process.March 10, 2012 at 10:27 am #336755
So, do I have to wait for the CBA's letter.. Or shall I start filling out the applications immediately !?
And I understand that to get licensed there are a lot of requirements.. But what about the certificate, am I getting it right after I am done with these forms and stuff !!?
Thank you guys very much :))
And yes, Cpham4, it is a miracle 🙂March 10, 2012 at 10:38 am #336756
Congrats!!! 15 days???? That's amazing. How did you do that?March 10, 2012 at 2:55 pm #336757
@Mina- Start filling them out and sending them in now. Don't wait for the letter. Consider me your letter. “Congrats on passing. Fill out your paperwork and pay us more money.” ok, get on it. You won't get your certificate for another 8-12 weeks. You need to be licensed first.March 13, 2012 at 8:56 am #336758
What does “licensure pathway” mean !?
That's in the application for Certified Public Accountant License (Form 11A-5)
SECTION V – PATHWAY CHOICE
Select a licensure pathway (check one)
Pathway 1 – with attest experience – requires 24 months of experience.
Pathway 1 – without attest experience – requires 24 months of experience.
Pathway 2 – with attest experience – requires 12 months of experience.
Pathway 2 – without attest experience – requires 12 months of experienceMarch 13, 2012 at 2:12 pm #336759
You have to select a pathway (1 or 2). If you have 150 units, select pathway 2. Then you decide if you have attest experience and someone can sign off on your attest experience.March 26, 2012 at 12:21 pm #336760
Minimorty, does 150 units mean Master degree ??.. I don`t know how many units do I have !!March 26, 2012 at 2:24 pm #336761
No masters necessary. You just need to get to 150 units. Community college units are fine and cheap. That's the way to go if you are short.March 31, 2012 at 1:28 pm #336762
And do I have to the community college stuff !? or it is better to select pathway 1 and save time and effort..
Actually, I still don't understand the difference between pathway 1 and 2, I also read on the CBA website that effective Jan 2014 there won't be pathway 1 any more, and everybody will be either pathway 1 with or without attest !!March 31, 2012 at 1:37 pm #336763
Pathway 1 = 120 units and 2 years experience
Pathway 2 = 150 units and 1 year experience
Pathway 1 is going away soon. Neither Pathway is “better” as they both result in the same license.March 31, 2012 at 11:40 pm #336764
if you didn't have a full time job by January 1, 2012 then you are not eligible for Pathway 1April 1, 2012 at 9:59 am #336765
Guys, thank you very much for your help..
Another small question..
I assume the experience meant is in public accounting, is that right ?
Because I never had an experience in public accounting in USA, I worked with some government departments and some public entities overseas.. is it gonna work, or do I have to have a public experience before proceeding in the licensing stuff !!
