Can I take AUD before FAR and pass?

I am trying to squeeze in an exam on Q2 but I work full time and only have a month left to study. Due to the time crunch, I think I can only take AUD since it’s the lightest material (compared to REG and FAR). I am just worried that I might have a difficult time with it without FAR. Any advise?

You think Audit is the lightest material? What study guide are you using- Becker?
I used both Wiley and Ninja for it.

Of the 3 I have passed, I studied the longest for Audit and still failed it the first time.
That is with me being CFO and overseeing our company's annual audit for the last 13 years.

Maybe you have a better background in it or your study material is better than Wiley was for me.
The AUD study material from Wiley wasn't that large (400+ pages ?), but you had to know every word and variation forwards and backwards.

I was more worried about AUD than any other section. AUD seems to stay on the DL until you take the exam. It seems easy because there's no formulas/math involved really, but I feel like you need to know and understand the book forwards and backwards.

How comfortable are you in general with financial statements and ratios? Do you have any Audit experience at all?

In terms of volume of information AUD will be much quicker to get through. You don't NEED far, and some of the ratios you will be familiar with from BEC. Have a successful go will depend on how well and quickly you pick up auditing concepts. For me it's been by far the easiest section but it will vary from person to person.

If you have a grasp of basic accounting concepts, like financial statements and journal entries (very basic ones) you can totally take AUD before FAR. I am taking FAR last (I know it's not recommended but I have to build up to it!).

I took AUD before FAR and passed… I think you are right on there being less material than REG and FAR. If you put forth a good effort and stay dedicated, I believe you can pass AUD in a month. All of the chapters in AUD build upon another. I didn’t find it to be TOO extremely difficult. Just my opinion. Good luck in whatever you choose.

I took AUD first, hadnt even looked at the FAR material, and got a 97. I don't think there's any correlation between taking FAR first then passing audit.

Yep, I agree with a lot of comments here. I took AUD first and by far it's been the easiest for me. I had about 3.5 weeks to study for it (Gleim) and I passed on the first try. I really think that AUD has a lot of logic involved – so you can reason your way through some of it. However, that being said, I don't know what it's going to be like in the new format.

Well sure you CAN pass it before FAR, but from personal experience I found having well developed knowledge on FAR topics helped me understand some of the stuff on AUD that isn't explained in detail like it is on FAR.

I also agree with most posters on here…AUD may seem the lightest because there's no numbers to it, but AUD is a tricky little b*tch. My advice is to not go in over confident (like I did) and not study the way you should. Treat it like any other section. I would suggest Ninja MCQS. Do all the questions, read explanations and definition, and don't sit until you're trending 85, averaging at least 70. That's what I did for my FAR retake and went from 67 to 82. Whatever you choose to do, though, good luck! 🙂

I took AUD before FAR and passed first try and studied almost exactly a month. Didn't do great, but I HATED it!!!! Totally doable.

Without a doubt doable, but FAR will definitely help with the simulations.

AUD was my first exam, and my highest score so far. So far all of these exams have helped me on the other ones. Like I saw some audit related questions in FAR and some FAR and AUD related questions in BEC. I think the real advantage to taking FAR first is if you fail you can keep trying until you pass without worrying about other tests falling off.

    @cmcook,
What study strategy did you use to successfully pass in 3.5 weeks. I would truly appreciate it if you can share.

    Thanks

Thanks for the feedback guys! I decided to sit for AUD on May 16th. I do have an understanding of the basic FAR concepts since I work as a financial accountant for about 4 years now.

And for those who asked, I use Becker materials only. I think AUD is the lightest since its only 6 chapters in Becker as compared to 12 chapters in FAR and 10 in REG!

Also, please share any study tips to pass AUD in month while working full time 🙂

Any tips on passing AUD within a month? Did you go through all the Becker lectures? 🙂 @holly

Yep – *raises hand* – I took AUD before FAR and passed first time. It took me 5-6 weeks of studying, but AUD was the part I was most worried about passing. I have no work experience and took only 1 class in college (grad school). I passed it over a year ago, but biggest connection for me was journal entries. As long as you have a pretty good foundation of basic journal entries, you should be fine.
