    I will be taking my last exam (hopefully) on 4/30. I’m also losing credit for an exam on 4/30. Does the expiration date allow for test taking on that day without losing credit? 4/30 is the only opening available. I have reached out to my state board (Massachusetts) several times via email and telephone with no responses (that’s another story, extremely frustrating). Thank you.

    I had the same question to my state board and she said as far as you take the exam “on” or “before” your score expiration date, you are good to go.

    So yes, you can take it on 4/30.

    Does each state board office in the US have a billion CPA candidates that the board staff cannot return phone calls or make courtesy reply emails to their customers? Dang!

    It might be a worth of personal visit to the board office so you can address your issues and ask them questions that need to be answered. In some states (like here in KY), if your grade expires on 4/30/2018, you can sit at the very last day of the testing window, i.e. 06/10/2018. If you pass on that day, all your grades are as good as PASSED in this window, thus you get your congratulatory letter thereafter.

    Good luck!

    @sona- thank you!

    @amor- I have been trying to contact them since January for various other reason. Yes, I do think they should answer the phone at least once out of the 20+ times I have called over a three month period. I must be nieve.

    I’d pay them a visit anytime soon if I were you.

    Other than having extra days (from 4/30/2018 to 6/10/2018) to sit for your last section, you might be able to ask your state board for an extension of your expiring grade. That said you’ll likely have two chances both in Q2 and Q3 to pass before your grade finally expires.

    @Amor, I live in Wyoming and the my state board said if you can sit on or before the score expiry date you are good to save expiring score. But, I am surprised to hear that they let you sit after the expiry of the score and the last day of the window (because CPA exams are uniform they don't have state regulations until you pass all the sections, right?). What is the meaning of 18 months rolling period?
    Also for the expiry of the score, they never give extension except if candidate have medical reasons and cannot give the exam or becoz prometric have some problems, right?

    I am not sure in both case what you said above. My REG expiring 4/14/18, and I gave my FAR on 4/3 and giving AUD on 4/13 to save my REG score (Assuming I pass FAR and AUD). If that would be the case then would you please post the link here.

    Thanks

    One thing to be careful of – if your expiration date is from NASBA's website, it's likely the last date of the month in which you hit 18 months, not your exact 18 month date. Some states have indicated that you must sit the 4th exam on or before the exact date in the month you took the 1st exam – so if you took your 1st passed exam on October 5th, 2016 for example, you'd have to take the 4th by April 5th, 2018 even if NASBA's website said it expired April 30th. I don't know how Massachusetts interprets it, but people who are approaching 18 months should keep that in mind.

    WOW, really………..

    So, do I check back to state and NASBA again? Thanks for telling.

    @jen- wow thanks for the heads up. On the nasba website it says they received my score November 24, 2016, but they say it expires April 30, 2018. Am I missing something or did they only give me 17 months?

    Every state board is different and Nasba is not always accurate. Some State board require you to pass all 4 sections in 18 months with the first exam expiring on the 18th month on the day you took the exam, some are 18 months to the last day of the month, and some more generous state is 18 months to the last day of the window. Take Nasba’s expiration with a grain salt, your most reliable info should come directly from your State Board.

    @Sona
    … this is what Wyoming Board on their Rules and regulations:

    The candidate shall receive a passing grade in each of the four (4) examination
    sections before a certificate will be issued. A passing grade shall be seventy-five (75). Credit for passing a section is valid from the actual date of the testing event regardless of the date the candidate is actually notified of or receives the score.

    (c) Granting of Credit.
    (i) A candidate may take test sections individually and in any order. Credit for any test section(s) passed shall be valid for eighteen (18) months from the actual date the candidate took the test section. A candidate must pass all four (4) test sections within a rolling eighteen-month period which begins on the date the first passed test section was taken. A candidate may take any section of the examination up to four times during a one-year period but cannot retake any failed test section in any one three-month testing period. In the event all four (4) test sections are not passed in the rolling eighteen (18) month period, credit for any test section passed outside the eighteen (18) month period will expire and that test section must be retaken.

    So in Wyoming you are correct, your credit expires on the 18th month from the day you took the exam.

    @jj your expiration of Apr 30 is 18 months from the day you took the exam and not when your score was received. Here’s what the Massachusetts board has…

    Passing the Computer Based Examination.
    (a) A candidate may take the required test sections individually and in any order. Credit for any test section(s) shall be valid for 18 months from the actual date the candidate took the test section, without having to attain a minimum score on any failed test sections(s) and without regard to whether the candidate has taken other test sections.
    (b) Candidates must pass all four test sections of the Uniform CPA Examination with a grade of 75 or higher within a rolling 18 month period, which begins on the date that the first test section(s) that is passed is taken.
    (c) Candidates cannot retake a failed test section(s) in the same examination window. An examination window refers to a three-month period in which candidates have an opportunity to take the CPA examination composed of two months in which the examination is available to be taken and one month in which the examination will not be offered, while routine maintenance is performed and the item bank is refreshed. Thus, candidates will be able to test two out of the three months within an examination window.
    (d) In the event all four test sections of the CBT are not passed within the rolling 18 month period, credit for any test section(s) passed outside the 18 month period will expire and test section(s) must be retaken.
    (e) A candidate shall be deemed to have passed the CBT once the candidate possesses at the same time valid credit for passing each of the four test sections of the CBT within the time frame described above. For purposes of 252 CMR 2.06(3), credit for passing a test section of the CBT is valid from the actual date of the testing event for that test section, regardless of the date the candidate actually receives notice of the passing grade.

    My State Board is also slow in picking up phones or answering emails. The quickest way to find the answer is going to your State Board and reading their Statutes regarding the CPA licensing.

    @jj – on what date in October 2016 did you take your exam? That's the date to count your 18 months from.

    BEC: 90

    FAR: 93

    REG: 84

    @jen- I honestly can’t even remember the date I sat for the 2016 test. I always though nasba was accurate. This sucks. Hopefully the April 30 expiration date is accurate.
