    Hello everyone!
I have only one exam left, REG, which i am taking in September and really hopping to pass. Meanwhile, the private company i work at is starting work around me to see what position i will be happy to accept to stay with them and not leave. I love my current place and would like to stay, however, i am second guessing and thinking maybe a better decision would be to go to a public company to gain experience.
Currently my resume consists of 2,5 years as general accountant (my responsibilities are very broad from bookkeeping for several partnerships and one corp to reconciliations, financial statements and budgeting. Really do everything) and hospitality business (bartender). So since my resume is not as strong i thought it would be better for me to move to a public co and gain experience there.
I will have to make a decision once i pass my last exam.
I will appreciate any advice and meanwhile will continue studying.
    Thanks.

I just finished my exam and want to go to a bigger public firm. I had the chance to private as an internal auditor but I turned it down. I really want to stay in public and get more experience (I have 2 yrs now). The typical path is gain experience in public about 5-6 yrs (my opinion), and then go to private company if you want to. As far as I know, it is harder to go public if you stay in private too long. If you have your exam done and in the process to getting your license, I would suggest you go for public (as you wished), you can explain to them that you did not stay in private for a very long time and found yourself interested in public now. It would not be very hard to making the transition. i know it is hard to say goodbye to your current job, but once you know what you really want, you will be able to have the courage to pursue what you want. Life is short, you already spent amount of time on exams and now go make it worth. Good luck to you !

FAR-79 (what a surprise and I am finally done !)

Sounds like a good background for a small or local public accounting firm.

    Thank you guys!
I really like the job I have right now and I like the people and some possibilities in this firm. But I also think I do need experience in public accounting to secure my future… I guess I'll have to go to public.
