CPA Application Florida – Background Information

Does it seem strange that the Florida Board of Accountancy approved my application to sit for the CPA exam without asking for documentation regarding my background information (arrest documents).

I filled out the description section of the application regarding the three misdemeanors I received 15 years ago but they did not ask for any documentation regarding them and approved me to sit for the exams. Since then I have passed all sections of the exams, fulfilled all other state requirements, and turned in my application for my CPA license.

I just received a letter requesting that I attend the next board meeting for the Board of Accountancy to answer questions and to bring all my arrest documents in.

Why would they allow me to sit for the exam and now give me a hard time about this? Plus the meeting is 5 hours away from my residence and the meeting is two months from now.

Lucky you! That sounds like great news. You didn’t get a flat out denial like me, consider yourself lucky. Be honest and plead your case. I believe I also went through this but applied to sit in 2010.

The only answer I can provide is approval to sit is different than approval to be licensed.
It really makes no sense, but it is what it is now.
Bring the documents, plead your case, hopefully you'll have success.
Dress the part, be well spoken and apologetic. Do your part and this should be a non-issue, depending on what the charges are, and what you plead down from (the original charges).
