Question. I received an offer starting out as an audit staff in the mid/low 50k’s. Curious what I could expect for an increase in pay each year? What percent is a fair raise?

    AUD - 82
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 77
    REG - 76
    What's next?

I started my career at a public accounting firm. Sounds like you received a reasonable offer. My first year I did get a 7% raise and beyond that it was in a similar range every year.

Most firms over the last ~5 yrs have been in the 5-10% range in non-promotion years.

Not sure what you mean by “fair”… generally depends on current headcount (by level group), forecasted headcount at year end (or fiscal year end) based on client workloads/attrition/etc.

The balance of current staffing vs estimated needs in the next year will very strongly influence overall raise/bonus (internal retention) and external hiring. Market factors may influence this indirectly, but the key is trying to maintain overall headcount by level for the office/firm.
