How long does this part of the process usually take? The NJ board received my license application on April 26. For the past few weeks when I called (once a week, starting two weeks after they received my application), the lady told me they’re just waiting on the criminal background check to come back.

For those who have gotten their license in NJ, do you know how long this took for you? Also, do you know if this is the final step in the process before the board can issue my license? From what the lady was saying, it seemed everything else was complete and they are just waiting on this background check to come back. I have a feeling that even after it comes back, it’ll still take a couple weeks until I’m actually licensed.

Any thoughts?

Depends on who are they using. If they are doing it via this , it should be done fairly quickly, other ways, it can take some time.

Even I am waiting for criminal background check to get licensed in NJ state. Does any body know the time it takes to complete this process…its been more than a week now

I work for a retailer that does criminal background checks in NJ. NJ is the state that we have to wait the longest for them to get back to us. It is about 30-40 days. Hope this helps.

They use a 3rd party retailer for this? I thought they just pulled your record straight from the state police.

Edit: Oh wow I didn't realize this thread is two years old. Wonder if he's still waiting!

Hey guise!

Is the 30-40 day wait still true for NJ background check? I called the state board yesterday and they said to call back in a couple since they're waiting on my background check results. They'll evaluate everything else next so I know I won't get my license this month. I applied about mid November.
