NINJA Question –

As stated in subject line… I didn’t realize we would also have to pay for an account in order to use the flashcards on Iphone. I mean, I don’t mind coughing up the dough if necessary, but just wanted to check to see if this is the norm.

No I didn't pay anything. I used brainscape on my computer and on my android phone.. not sure if you use iphone and you have to pay for the app?

It used to be free, but now they make you pay if you want to import files. I had all my flashcards on there and for some idiotic reason I deleted REG, AUD, and BEC and now I can't get them back on smh.

i just recently got locked out of my brainscape account – i have had the account for more than a year but think they recently changed to a subscription model. when i was unexpectedly locked out they told me my ‘free trial' period was over….
they are holding my flashcards for bec hostage and i am happy to let them continue doing so – $9.99/mo is outrageous.

Brainscape added the Pro mode January 2016 which moved some of the features to pay based. I had received e-mails that it was coming as well as some updates as they changed their minds on some of it based on user feedback. It's a really recent change.

I really like the app and felt it helped me memorize a bunch of formulas for FAR by seeing them over and over while doing sets of 15 throughout the day. Hopefully Jeff can come up with a solution since the flashcards rely on the app. This sucks because I had been making my own flashcards while doing the mcq and cant download them to my phone now.

@Silvercamaro77 – this is OT from my original post – however, what was your study strategy for BEC, REG & FAR? Those are what I have left, and I'll be using NINJA too.. and you scored great! So it would be great to hear from you.

On topic- thanks all for confirming this is a new change. I'll probably just suck it up and make the purchase for a couple months.

I was about to ask this same thing. I saw this thread a few days ago then last night I tried to upload my BEC flashcards just to see and nope. That's a lot of money just to be able to upload them. I looked for alternatives last night but couldn't find a whole lot.

I'll be paying attention to this. The flashcards aren't absolutely necessary but I love them for when I have a few spare minutes.

Totally agreed! I take the train to work every day so thats an hour of flashcard time. I am currently looking into alternatives and will let you know what I find. However beware that I have a mac and iphone so I will only be searching for alternative apps and websites that allow for the use of apple products. Currently looking into Flashcard Hero.

*strike Flashcard Hero as it costs $7.99 to use the app! haha so far this is not going well!*

You can always handwrite the flash cards out. I used brainscape back when it was free and liked it but I don't know if I would want to pay for it.

Ok so I found StudyBlue to work the easiest. They have a computer based program as well as a mobile app. You can upload the csv files from Jeff to StudyBlue. However, in order to do this you need to delete the first column in each of the csv files as StudyBlue will only read the first two columns of information. The first column in each csv file is the topic that the flashcards relates to like say “capital budgeting” and it is repeated for each flashcard. So if you delete this first column it leaves you with the question and answer thus allowing your flashcards to correctly appear within StudyBlue.

It will take some getting use to but I think this is the best option I have found thus far that is free.
