Do I have to get a BS in accounting for the US CPA? or i have to get MS in accounting ?

I have a BS in computer science, but my career is accounting.

    1. Can I get a Master’s in accounting(2years) instead of a BS in accounting without a BS in accounting to get eligible for the CPA?
    OR
    2. Can i sit for CPA exam without any degrees in accounting but with the extra courses ?

what is the fastest way to be eligible for CPA for me ? please guide me .

i am from one of the Asian countries ( even i do not know my BS in computer accredited in US or not !!!!) and i want to immigrate to US , but i do not know what is the best path (road map ) for me to be a professional accountant in US .

    thanks

You do not necessarily need a BS in Accounting to obtain your CPA, but I think it depends on what state you want to sit for. Most states just want you to have a certain amount of accounting and business credits.

    FAR - 78

    AUD - 75

    BEC - 83

    REG - 82

I would say look up the requirements for the state you want to be certified in because its different in every state. In VA we have to have 120 credits (including 24 accounting credits) to sit for the exam and 150 credits to become certified. I think the best program depends on how many credits you actually need. I have a BS in accounting and I took an additional 6 accounting credits at a community college to fulfill my requirements.

I do not think you do. I have a BS in economics and only took a few accounting courses in high school. The majority of my accounting coursework I took at a community college after graduation. There are even programs out there where you can complete the education requirements in as little as one summer.

    AUD: 77 (4/21/15),
    BEC: 74 (8/25/15), 79 (1/12/16),
    FAR: 65 (2/27/15), 73 (7/27/15), 72 (11/16/15), 73 (7/13/16), 75 (10/14/16)
    REG: 57 (5/17/16), 74 (8/16/16), 77 (10/21/16)

Completed 4 exams in 11 tries within 18 months.

    CA PETH: 82 (10/17), 92 (11/17)

Hey Atrain! BS in economics too 🙂

Search LSU Independent Distance Learning, really easy way to get accounting credits on your own. You submit problems by email and they mail a test to a local proctor you'll have to find. Seriously 3 credit courses were like $300, got most of my accounting that way after paying $1500 per class at my university for my first 3 classes.
