Does adaptive learning work in custom mode?

    NINJA Question –

I’m currently about 1/3 of the way through adaptive learning but I notice I’m getting a lot of repeats. I can see the same question multiple times in one day. I was wondering if I switch to only new questions in custom, adaptive learning will still work or no?

Also, is it normal for your scores to increase in adaptive learning v. assessment phase? In the assessment phase, I was scoring anywhere between 60-80% per 10 question sets but since I reached adaptive learning, I’m scoring typically 80 or 90% correct. This is increasing my trending score pretty quickly (which I’m not complaining about) but I’m not sure if this is going to instill false confidence? I assumed I would actually score worse in adaptive since it is supposed to hone in on my weak areas but I’m doing better in adaptive than assessment.

I only did “new questions” and did them by subtopic. Maybe once you have done all the questions at least once, then you can switch to “missed last time seen.” I never got that far though. Always ran out of time.

I did only new questions throughout the assessment phase to help me get to the adaptive phase sooner but I'm not really getting any closer to review because I'm doing quite a bit of repeat questions and I know I have to have answered all questions correct at least once to get to review phase. I'm hoping I can get there by the time I take my exam.

I hadn't read it but I did once I read your post. I have been reading the terms as I go but have not used the references. I assumed that would be too time-consuming. I have found the terms very helpful, though. It' cleared up foggy terms for me and the application within each question really helps nail down why certain answers are correct and why others are wrong. I really enjoy this feature. I know you mentioned in a previous post of mine to try for 150 questions a day but I have been doing around 100. Not as many as I'd like but I've also been working on SIMs. Mainly journal entry sims. I find that Ninja does a better job at replicating test sims than Wiley. I get excited every time I get hung up on journal entries because that's what happened in my actual exam, so I want to understand and improve now before my retake.

How far through Ninja did you get when you sat for the exams, pertaining to the number of questions answered compared to your average score? Right now my average is 66.8%. That's awfully low and makes me quite upset. I've never felt this dumb before and it really doesn't help my motivation. Is there hope in me getting it to at least 75% average by test time mid-January?

I would go through only new questions until you get through every one of them. After that you can do sets of missed last time and adaptive learning. You're always going to see a lot of repeats during adaptive learning so you might as well get through all of them first.

FWIW when I took FAR I was averaging 58 and trending 67 and managed to pull it off. Just make sure you're very familiar with Gov/NFP.

Did you get through all of the questions and get that trending and average score?

@scared_cpa- The 58 and 67 were my final scores before my exam. Don't remember what it was, but my trending score was much lower after my first run through all the questions. FAR was my first exam so I was going through a learning curve the first time around.

Circadian malfunction – do you have any idea what your scores were on the first go around? What I'm saying is, if you did a set of 30 for example, of never before seen questions, what was your score on them? If you go through them so many times I'd imagine after a while you memorize some of them and the response we give isn't always from our knowledge as much as it is the application from other times we've seen the same or similar question.

Respect – This is my first exam (failed it once, obviously, but never done any other than it) so I'm using ninja mcqs as kind of the total review before my retake. I hope it will be enough!

I only did new questions. Only time I had repeats was my very first day using Ninja because I didn't know how to use it correctly.

As I said before I did the questions by each little subtopic. I didn't mix government with accrual accounting for example. So I may have gotten better towards the end of a subtopic. Not much better though as I recall.

Okay, thanks. That's how it seems I am – I feel like I am learning but my scores aren't necessarily improving so I don't know what to make of it.
