Experience Requirement for License Application to CA Board

I have two questions regarding work experience requirement for CA board:
    1. Does CA board have a restriction of accepting experience earned only 5 years or less than 5 years before the CPA license application? For example, let’s say 400 hours were earned in 1st quarter of 2013 & license application is submitted somewhere in 4th quarter of 2018. Will that 400 hours be counted towards experience requirement?

    2. I understand that 170 part-time hours will equal one month of full time job. So if using only experience from part time job, then one needs 170 x 12 = 2040 hours to meet experience requirement for CPA license?

Hopefully someone in similar situation &/or is in the middle of application process or already got their license have answers to the above questions. As far as I know, CA board will not answer any questions unless there is an license application filed. Please let me know if there is anyone I can contact at the Board who can answer these questions.

@ sacpa : The CA licensing unit is pretty good at replying to any questions you have even before you apply for licensure. Just email them your query at licensinginfo@cba.ca.gov.

I had a similar query for which this is what they answered.See below:

My question 1: Before how many years of sitting for the exam will the experience obtained be considered valid by the CBA?

CBA: While we accept experience from before sitting for the CPA Exam, if both the experience and the passage of the CPA Exam are 5 years old or older, then Continuing Education may be necessary.

Question 2: So if my internship experience in public accounting outside US (in India) is for the year 2010-2011 and I pass all my 4 sections this year(2017), then I assume that the public accounting experience is older than 5years but the CPA exams are not. Does that mean continuing education won't be necessary for me?

CBA : Continuing education will not be required for initial licensure if Exam passage is less than 5 years old when your application file is reviewed.

I hope this helps. All the best to you!

@She: Unbelievable that you had asked the same questions as me. Oh my gosh! Aren't you a Godsend? I take this as a sign to get to business. Thank you for posting those replies. Good to know that I don't have to get continuing education & my experience will be given credit. Btw, I am from India too.

I have sent emails to that email address, but probably I tested their patience by asking too many questions on multiple occasions & they replied saying that a license application has to be on file & that they are swamped to look up details without one.

Thanks for your wishes! Hope to be on the other side soon!

@ sacpa : This whole licensing thing is such a pain for international students.I am right now just looking at completing the 150 credit hour rule, just short of 8 credits! And I have my experience from India. so I bugged them like crazy with my twisted and detailed questions lol! 😛

Do you have experience here? or from India?

@She: I studied in India but working in US. I heard that the process is even more complicated for international candidates. Wish we can connect personally so we can get to know each other more.

My priority is to pass the exam first. I also will need to get about 5 units in Accounting & 3 units in Ethics to meet license requirement. I plan to take some online courses at a community college after passing the exams.

@She: Did you pass all sections last year or just recently?
