Failed FAR and lost motivation

I have been trying to get back into studying and cannot get motivated. I worked really hard, studied constantly and was very disciplined with studying for my first try. I scored a 72 and now every time I schedule to study or have free time I just get bored/distracted/bummed out:/ It’s now been a little over 3 weeks since my exam (I regrettably took those 10 days off waiting for my score) and I now I’m accompanying my lack of motivation with panic for waiting so long since my exam…

Anyone else been through this?? advice??

My advice would be to schedule the test 4 or 6 weeks from now. You were pretty close to passing so you were doing right studying, just need to do a little more. Good luck

Sorry you did not receive a passing score, but for a first attempt, I'd say that's a lot better than my first attempt! You missed the mark by a few points, but I think with a bit more of refining you can definitely pass this exam the second time around! You are definitely not alone in feeling bummed out, I made a post a few weeks ago feeling discouraged and ready to give up. I took REG for a second time in Q1 scoring a 73, while it was a heart breaker, it definitely gave me that feeling that I can do this. Take this 72 and turn it into motivation, you can do this. This exam and journey is going to have its ups and downs, you just have to keep on pushing through. I have a list of reasons why I want to become a CPA, and anytime I face distractions or anything, I read that list and remind myself what I am going through all of this.

What a journey! It took me 12 attempts, do not give up, keep going! Praise God!

I think everyone faces this. I did on FAR and REG for sure because they are a lot of content. If you get your motivation back, you will pass FAR. Keeping motivated to study for weeks and weeks is tough. Do what you have to do and find it.

I think you have two options. 1) Use this crunch time/pressure to give it your ALL and do NOT self sabotage. FAR takes many people multiple events so you are not alone. Your motivation should be NOT to feel this way again! or 2) Push the test back a bit until you feel “ready” to start studying.

Considering more than half the people who took FAR have failed, you are definitely not alone. Finding the will to pass the first one is the hardest, but once you do, and the 18 month clock starts ticking, you will absolutely feel more motivated to keep going. Keep at it!

Just wanted to add my two cents, Can't Fail. You can do this. I failed FAR the first time also, but passed with an 85 the second time around. The same is true for many of us. Don't give up. Take a little time off as others have suggested, but then get back on the horse.

All of you are making me feel so much better:) It's so nice to have this forum; thank you for responding and helping:) I am still struggling to get motivated and am just overwhelmed I think. I was going to try and retake May 15th, but may try for June which I'm worried is too far out. It's like I cannot seem to even start. I have studied a little bit, but am still reviewing F1 for Becker at this point. I'm so unsure of which way to proceed—do I just go MCQ/Sims via Becker and Ninja or start from scratch and mcq/sims becker start to finish then review with ninja sims/mcq?

When I'm starting from scratch all I can think is you're taking too long, don't go back to the beginning. When I'm in Ninja sims/mcq, I'm like you don't remember this, start from the beginning.

Just register the date. You can use that to motivate yourself to start studying again. Remember once you pass everything you will not have worry about it ever again.
