So I just finished taking my FAR exam yesterday… MCQ’s were pretty straightforward. I think the weightage percentage set by AICPA is all wrong… The SIM’s weren’t too bad either. I did not have a single DRS SIM. but some of the SIM’s were completely out of left field. The Becker SIM’s do not compare at all. After coming out of the Prometric centre, I had mixed feelings. I did not know whether to be happy or be sad. Waiting for 12/11.

Nice. I am taking mine in 3 days and feel like I am about to fail…………. I know you are not allowed to disclose but did you see a lot of specific transaction type questions?

@BlackPink. Don't leave anything is what I would suggest you. Focus on IFRS as well. FAR really is gigantic but apparently AICPA really wants you to have a decent knowledge of the entire syllabus

I thought for sure AICPA was giving DRS SIMs now, I am surprised they did not want to test the document skills. I also read that for a SIM they are not having pull-down answers anymore.

@cpagoal yeah, after hearing so much about the DRS SIMS, I did not get a single one. And I was mildly surprised too on the content that they are testing.

I took FAR in this quarter and I got several DRS sims. I also didn’t feel terrible after the exam which worries me. I thought the exam was reasonable which made me think I just overlooked little things and didn’t realize. Ugh, these next two weeks are going to be long!

I thought the AICPA was focused on meeting the demands of business, which is why the exam has DRS SIMs. I wonder if it is possible to get a test (SIM) without any DRS just by random? I know the AICPA has said every exam is different, but I thought that meant there were several versions of the exam in each quarter, not that every person could get a completely different exam and that questions are assigned randomly (and then weighted later).

Consider yourself lucky. 7/8 of my SIMS all had DRS. And most of them were useless and gave me no sense of direction on how to fill these out.

i took mine today and had at least 3-4 DRS. i left 2 hours for the 8 tbs/research/drs questions and i ran out of time because of the insane amount of information. i used roger cpa and studied a long time but i feel like i just bombed that exam.

I was supposed to take it this Wednesday Nov 28 and pushed it to Tuesday Dec 4…… I’m so nervous about this exam. I took REG and BEC in October. I sure hope December will be a great month with all passing grades.

I am taking FAR on Thursday for the 3rd time. First attempt I got a 71, second attempt I got a 72. This is killing me because it is my last section to pass. I lost credit in BEC because of the 72 I made on FAR, but I went ahead and retook BEC and passed it with ease, but if I do not pass FAR this attempt I will lose my REG credit. On both of my other attempts I did not have any DRS sims, and I felt like I was not tested on any of the major topics BECKER said were heavily tested. I felt like the multiple choice question were easy and the SIM were insanely hard over topics that were barely even mentioned in the review material. I have used backer for all my exams and the other 3 parts were great. I feel like Beckers far review is extremely weak, the topics in the text are made to sound so easy and then the multiple choices question are all over situation not discussed or mentioned in the text. Like they only show you one way to do a journal entry and then the multiple choice question will ask well what if this happens or this and it was not taught how to do that situation or if this happens differently. Out of the 16 SIMs I have had in my FAR experiences not 1 was even close to anything in the review material.

@Thetaxguy. Yup! Do the leases. I can't disclose much due to the forum rules but make sure you understand leases well.

The AICPA reached out to me and confirmed it's quite possible candidates won't see a DRS on their particular exam, so don't be alarmed.

@Jeff the alarming part is that some people get stuck with a bunch of long, crazy DRS (I did last time and bombed) and they don't have enough time, when others don't get them and probably pass easily. I don't know…seems like they could find a better balance.
