    Hello everyone,

I just took FAR for the second time this past Friday, and here is my experience. Last time I took it in October, I literally watched the time expire as I was still working on a Simulation. On this retake, I probably only marked 3-4 questions per testlet, and even felt good about those.

On the SIMS, I really think that I got the majority of them right. There were 2 SIMS I know I got 100% on (one being the research), and on the others, I think I got the majority of the points if not at least 50-60% of the points. I scored a 68 on my last take, and it was due to very low scores on NFP and Gov’t. On this test, I think I killed the NFP and Gov’t with the exception of 1 question that I know I got wrong.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and passed? This is my last test if I pass and it will mean that I won’t have to worry about the 4/1/17 changes. Praying every day that I passed. If I failed, then I honestly don’t know what I could have done differently. I was not really surprised by any MC questions, and even though the SIMS were difficult, I still think they were doable and I did decent on them.

I took FAR the day after you. I was definitely unprepared for Nonprofit, and underprepared for Govt. And, I got three easy testlets, I'm pretty sure. My experience with the SIMs was about the same as yours. If you nailed Govt and NPO, you probably passed, if you did as well on the SIMs as you say you did. I would not even come close to worrying. FAR is the test that is going to experience the least amount of changes. So, if you did flunk this most recent attempt, you would probably do just fine with the slightly altered new format. Just be glad that you're done with the first three exams and don't have those staring you in the face anymore (with a harder format) like the rest of us do.

@mjbey1s I took FAR in Oct 2014 w/ only NINJA notes review. Got a 68… Fast forward to Jan 2017: I've passed all exams, gearing up to take FAR. (Didn't use any NINJA prep, but I felt pretty ready.)

FAR test day: experience was nearly identical to yours… Praying for a pass for both of us! GOOD LUCK!

@SomethingTim eless, Good luck to you too. I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, because I have been kicked in the ass way too many times by this exam. But I truly feel I knew the material the best that I possibly could. The fact that I think I did fairly well on the SIMS hopefully will put me over hump. Who knows though 🙁

@mjbey1s i am literary on the same exact boat as you. i came out of the exam feeling the same exact way and as score release comes closer i keep doubting myself more and more 🙁 but i think because we've taken it before and failed it we both got a better understanding of what it takes to pass this monster.

I pretty much had same experience like yours however i got two research question and felt TBS were pretty easy. I felt somewhat good about MCQs but though TBS were my stronger performance. I passed with 76 and i am pretty sure you will pass too considering your experience. Little luck would always help in this kind of exams. GOOD LUCK>

I retook FAR this past Friday, 1/27.

There is no sugar coating it. That test mentally and emotionally violated me. I needed an adult when it was over. And a stiff drink.

I knew I was off to a bad start when the first question was IFRS and the second question was 7 paragraphs long. The IFRS theme continued into the sims, with a good 50% of my exam being “so-and-so company uses IFRS blahblahblah”. 50%, I'm not even joking. Now, this is a good thing if I remembered all my IFRS vs GAAP differences. But before I was even done with the first testlet, the sheer volume of IFRS questions had me second guessing everything. Combined with the fact that numerous times I would have a question concerning IFRS, followed by a similar question with good ole GAAP. Several were items that I don't feel were covered well in both Ninja and Wiley material.

I had three testlets of that mess. I couldn't even classify the difficulty levels, although I'm pretty sure the second was hard. The third could go either way.

Sims were my strong suite when I took this exam in November. If IFRS didn't kill me on this one, sims did. The research question was very strangely worded and it had me going back and forth on what exactly it was asking. Another sim was asking for journal entries and I'm not ashamed to say I don't have any idea what it was wanting me to do with said JEs. I also had two of the odd debit/credit worksheets that people have mentioned in other threads. Where it gives you a list of transactions and a trial balance type journal and you have to adjust the balances with debits and credits (not netted). I knew what I was doing on them, I just wasn't clear if I was doing the worksheet like it wanted or not. 2 of my sims were also the DRMs. They weren't difficult but they do eat up time.

Sorry for the long winded post. But geez. I needed to get that off my chest. I made a 70 the first time I took FAR and thought my soul and brain both were gonna break. If I make a 70 on this one I will be proud and relieved.

@BEN “If I make a 70 on this one I will be proud ” shows you convinced yourself as failed.Don't write off ,it's too early ,you may read the post of others and most of them said when they felt they failed they passed.I am having 70 in AuD and can understand your situation .It's easy to jump from 50 to 75 but seems daunting to raise 5 marks from 70 .Stay tuned for pleasant surprise on score release date.

    Finally a CPA!!

Passed FAR with a 89. Honestly I didn't think I scored that high.

My advise to the group is to focus on NFP and GOV. Know the JEs and you will be fine.

Also, no need to repeat questions you have mastered, move to the questions you struggle with.

Finally make sure you know the differences between GAAP and IFRS. I saw a lot of that on the test.

    Good luck to all!
