FAR re-take

1st full week of studying for my retake. I jumped right into Ninja MCQ, and about half way done. My average score is 78-the topics I am weak on are no surpise. I started to re-write my own notes today, but that was so de-motivating, I didn’t get very far. Tomorrow I need to re-write my notes (they are disjointed from my first test, I want to re-write them by topic in a new notebook). I really need to re-read my Becker book on acquisitions, equity method, and non-monetary exchanges so far. My plan is to get through the rest of the Ninja MCQ by end of next week, and re-write the rest of my notes. I then plan on printing out Ninja notes (didn’t utilize last time) and then jump into SIMS, while re-doing the missed MCQ in Ninja and continue re-reading the book. How are others approaching their re-take?

How many MCQs are you doing per day?
I find that I max at 120 in a day, even with breaks.
    Remember quality over quantity.

Keep your head up, you got this!

Memento Mori - Kingston NY CPA & EA (SUNY Albany 2002)

    FAR-93 11/9/17 (10wks, 250 hrs, Roger 1800+ MCQs, Gleim TB 600+MCQs, SIMs)
AUD-88 12/7/17 (3 wks, 85 hrs, Roger 1000 MCQs no SIMs hail mary)
    REG-96 1/18/18 (6 wks, 110 hrs, 1400 MCQs, no SIMs)
    BEC-91 2/16/18 (4wks, 90 hrs, 1240 MCQs)

@Recked Racing-it has been a slow week with the snow in Boston, so I have done about 75 a day. I have done it by section, so some take me longer than others. I will be going back to tackle the “missed since last time seen” once after I have had a chance to re-read the book and re-write my notes. Right now I just want to get through them to see where the biggest pain points are and to see how much I really remember (it's a lot surprisingly). I think a part of my fail was that I got a bad test:) LOL!

@anyatever Good to hear you're making really good progress. I started with re-reading the book/rewriting my notes and am finishing F6 currently. My plan is to keep re-reading my notes and do progress tests along the way. Once I am done with the notes, I will jump into the Ninja MCQs and SIMs. I am working full-time so it's taking me a little longer to get through everything.

Is it bad that I'm really jealous y'all are working on FAR? lol

I'd much rather work on that than BEC. BEC is just so random…

@Jennifer Hahaha that's funny. The grass is always greener on the other side lol. I agree though that BEC is a mix of very random projects but looking at your scores, you will do just fine. Let us keep at it!

@Jennifer-I am actually petrified that I won't pass FAR before July and will have to re-take BEC with SIMS, now that would be a nightmare scenario!!!!
@SchruteBeet-so you are re-doing everything in Becker before jumping into Ninja ha? I opted out of that, but will do Becker for areas I am weak on and will do progress tests and mock exam and SIMS of course…..

@anyatver I am not working through Becker MCQ's yet – just progress tests and textbook problems.

    Hello All
I started studying for my FAR retake a couple of days ago. I use Becker and completely started from scratch chapter by chapter. I’m planning to complete 2 chapters per week. I have to admit that it’s a little easier but I see exactly where I fell short the first time around. I have two modules left in chapter one. I’m planning to type my written notes tonight. I ditched my previous notes and started fresh. I’ve never re-written or typed my notes before. This seems to help a lot of people on this forum so I decided to give it a try.

@SchruteBeet-I am re-writing my previous notes, making them more systematized, and also writing some stuff that I had on flashcards into the notes book. I have been flipping through the textbook as I do this as well so that I make additional notes as I go. I even glued in an example from Ninja MCQ on capitalized interest today! 🙂 LOL
@msquared17-that sounds like a great plan! Do you have your date scheduled yet? I am exactly 5 weeks away…..

@anyatver – I haven't scheduled it yet, but plan to take it on 2/23. So about 7 weeks. The plan is to finish the material by 2/11 and leave two weeks for final review.

I have given myself 6 weeks from January 1st for the re-take…I am 40% through the material in terms of MCQ/notes/etc. will need a couple of days for NFP and governmental accounting and then another week for SIMS, and two weeks for review. I am kind of rushing myself I think but then don't want to drag it out either…oy!

I will be re-taking FAR on 2/8 and am at a loss of where to go in my studies. I scored a 72 the first time, and know that SIMs are where I failed. I have completed all of the updated lectures in Roger and am now kind of wandering aimlessly. I spend Sunday doing nothing but SIMs from Roger and am doing much better than expected. I am conflicted on whether to rewatch the other lectures a second time since the few that I have rewatched I feel like I am retaining more information than I did the first time. I guess I just need guidance on what to do. I set my retake date yesterday, so I am hoping that gives me the drive to buckle down on a course plan. What do you suggest?

    BEC - NINJA in Training
    FAR - 72

@JAStansel-I think as much as we all hate to do it, the best thing to do is to get through the material again, in some way. I haven't been watching or listening to the lectures in Becker unless it's updated or I am still having trouble with something. What I have done is jump into Ninja MCQ, and I have been systematically going through it section by section -plan on being done this week. This will achieve two objectives-give me a sweeping review of the material and identify weak areas. I have also been reading the Becker book and re-writing/ adding to my notes. After this week, I plan on jumping into Becker SIMS, re-doing weak areas of MCQ and adding to my notes, and continue reading the book. With a score of 72, you are going to know a lot, but you will be able to see areas you are still weak on. Good luck-let's keep this thread going-I feel like it's a great way to keep myself motivated! 🙂
