1st full week of studying for my retake. I jumped right into Ninja MCQ, and about half way done. My average score is 78-the topics I am weak on are no surpise. I started to re-write my own notes today, but that was so de-motivating, I didn’t get very far. Tomorrow I need to re-write my notes (they are disjointed from my first test, I want to re-write them by topic in a new notebook). I really need to re-read my Becker book on acquisitions, equity method, and non-monetary exchanges so far. My plan is to get through the rest of the Ninja MCQ by end of next week, and re-write the rest of my notes. I then plan on printing out Ninja notes (didn’t utilize last time) and then jump into SIMS, while re-doing the missed MCQ in Ninja and continue re-reading the book. How are others approaching their re-take?

@msquared-I need to do some sort of cumulative review this weekend. Thinking some progress tests in Becker to make things interesting:)

@Anyatver Agreed that the NFP change makes more sense now hah. I am also wrapping up F10 this weekend and before I do a deep dive into Ninja MCQ's each day, figured it would be nice to do some kind of cumulative review and a progress test.

Cash to accrual is kicking my butt!!! Right when I think I have it all figured out, I get the next one wrong..SMH I need to go back through and write down the explanations for each one I got wrong. Maybe that will make it stick. Moving on to writing F3 notes tonight.

@msquared17-I couldn't get it for the longest time, the formulas in Becker are totally useless! What helped me is really think about it, like if the accruals decreased, but we are talking about cash method, then it was paid in cash and therefore is expensed, or if accounts receivables decreased, it's still cash that they would count as revenue using the cash method. Every transaction that was given in MCQ I had to think about it in real terms and it actually helped me solve the problems in a more efficient way! Good luck with F3, it's not a walk in the park either! 🙂

Not sure if this helps, but the way I solve cash to accrual is like I am doing cash flows but reversed. Increase in A/R is increase in accrued amount. Then, increase in A/P, is decrease in accrued amount.

FAR - 65 (Planned rematch on Apr/May 2018 'cuz CalBOA is turtle slow)
    AUD - 2/10/18 (Roger MCQ/TBS, 5 weeks prep) - Pending...
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD

Writing notes because I need that extra boost to feel productive. Everyone, I mean everyone knows that far is an inch deep and a mile long (or something like that). The notes help me stay focused and keep things organized in my mind. You guys sound like you're on a consistent flow.

@Tncincy-I spent pretty much all last week going through the Becker book and my old notes and making new notes…This way it forced me to re-read the material, review it, and organize everything in the notes…I started on government accounting MCQ but it's scary how much of that I forgot (I think I blocked it out!) so I think I will spend today writing more notes and do MCQ tomorrow. Have to get going on the SIMS and more MCQ next week!!!!

This is taking way longer than I thought it would to get through each chapter. I just finished MCQ for F3M2. There is no way I will be finished with F4 by tomorrow night.

    My plan is as follows:
read a module then take notes
listen to lecture and take more notes if needed
    skills practice
    mcq – first pass
mcq – second pass – wrong or marked – send to one note if still wrong (review later)
    move on to next module

sims at the end of each chapter
    short progress test

I'm a couple of chapters behind so I'm playing catch up. For now I've decided to skip a few steps and focus on reading, taking notes and mcq. Even this is taking a long time. I wonder if I should skip reading and taking notes and focus on mcq and taking notes on anything I get wrong. This is my second round of studying after failing miserably in December. So the info isn't foreign. Urghh! The hardest part is figuring out the most efficient way to study.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

@ msquared17-are you using only Becker for the re-take? For my re-take I am using primarily Ninja and Becker for the book and SIMS. For what it's worth, here is what I did so far to sort of speed things up without sacrificing quality. I jumped right into MCQ in Ninja-and did them all, section by section-this flushed out my weak areas. You could probably do that too. By the way if you do a set of 8 questions-their assessment, it will tell you if you need to do the lecture again or not. Then I went back to my old notes, flashcards and the book and created a fresh set of notes. Note taking also included going through the book as I found that this is the only way I can actually pay attention to the book the second time around. I would only listen to the lectures if I want to hear them talk me through an example. Garrity is terrible and even Peter Olinto isn't keeping me amused the second time around. I have to finish taking notes on NFP and government accounting and then I am going back to Ninja MCQ and doing the ones I missed, and this is when I will go back to Becker to do progress tests and SIMS. I didn't plan on doing Skills Practice unless it involves journal entries. I don't think I could do it the same way as the first time around. The way I am thinking about it is review on steroids.

Does anyone else think the way Becker lays out governmental accounting is awful??? I am taking notes and doing it my own way, because their way just doesn't make sense to me….
